Good nights, tough mornings

Good nights, tough mornings

New here, but wanted to see how many of struggle with the calm nights, when you are positve that "it's" getting better, then comes the next morning, when for some reason, the cortisol levels seem to have jumped over night. The anxiety and depression kick back in and you spend another day fighting on the roller-coaster. Sorry if this seems like a rant, but just looking to see if I have some common ground with anyone.

Welcome @jrn,

You are definitely not alone and you've come to the right place: a community of people who truly get it.

I often find that evenings are the hardest for me when it comes to depression and anxiety, but it's very common for people to experience these feelings in the morning when cortisol is at its peak.

I am curious to know what your days look like at the moment and what support you have? Maybe we can explore some ways for you to ease into meaningful action early in the day, so that things feel less overwhelming?

But would love to hear your thoughts, please feel free to rant away!!

Here for you.

Hey @jrn

Welcome to the forums. I tend to struggle to get out of bed and get going on Tafe days. Sometimes I just don't feel like it you know? I don't know what the answer is to feeling like you are on a roller coaster most days.

@jrn I’m currently dealing with this right now, particularly with anxiety. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone.

@AuntGlow Thanks for the reply. My mornings usually start with me waking a 4am for work at 7, my alarm doesn't wake me btw. Work is usually a welcome distraction, but we are going through a tough time with our teenage daughter atm. So the old black dog has come back to visit. I am currently having the week of work, so I can see the gp to get a new mental health plan and possibly go back on antidepressants. It's going to be a tough run I think

@cocoloco1 I really feel for you. It's not a nice ride, but for some reason not so bad when you aren't the only one. Stay strong

Re: Good nights, tough mornings

I struggle with anxiety of a night, and from the crash that follows from a full day of masking, but the mornings for me of late have been even worse for low mood and depression symptoms than my nights.

So you are not alone @jrn

Hi @jrn,

It sounds like you're going through some very genuine stressors, and I think it's so positive that you are able to recognise when you need support. This week off and time to get your mental health care plan sorted sounds really helpful.

If you can take a moment to reflect on what's going on, what do you need support with the most? And what would you like to see change? 💛

Re: Good nights, tough mornings

Hi jrn,

That is really rough. I can't imagine how exhausted you must be feeling. I'm sorry it's been so much every day.

I am post depression and have anxiety spikes at the moment. I am finding it very tiring. I'm making my tomorrow to do list at night when I'm ok so I can try to just follow the plan the next day. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Sorry I'm new I'm not sure on correct wording or anything but looking forward to learning from others, thank you very much for sharing.

Re: Good nights, tough mornings

The worst part is not knowing why the Cortisol is there, how it came about during sleep. I've found myself awake for a whole 8+ hours sweating and feeling the stress in the brain just from waking up to go to the toilet. Then the morning will come and I will spend all day trying to figure out how to catch up on sleep only for the roller coaster ride to repeat itself. I don't know which days are good anymore - the one with good sleep or the one where there is no cortisol in the head.
