Re: I'm the partner of a paranoid schizophrenic

Re: I'm the partner of a paranoid schizophrenic

Hi all,

Just looking for reassurance, each time my husband has an 'episode', he turns on me, calls me names, and essentially makes our im a burden and that he's leaving. Then when he returns he's fine and apologized. It still rattles me 😔

Hi @AudreyKane,

Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing what's going on for you.

This sounds incredibly overwhelming and destabilising for you... of course you're feeling rattled. It's a lot for your nervous system to oscillate between feeling unsafe/safe, and so rapidly too.

It sounds like your husband is going through an extremely challenging time and I am so sorry to hear you're both struggling as a result. I really hope our community can provide you some solace as you work through this more vulnerable time.

I am wondering, what do you need to see change the most here? And what supports do you both currently have access to? Let's start there.

Also, you can always contact 1800RESPECT if things start to feel too hard to manage on your own: https://1800respect.org.au/ 💛

Thank you for your response. Yes, I love him so much, and I know it's reciprocated. It's just so very difficult. I know it's not easy for him, but as a person with a very big heart it crushes me every time. I do need someone to talk to to reassure me.

Of course, and how you are feeling is so valid. @AudreyKane

I am wondering if there are some loving boundaries you could set here? So that when he feels this way, he is able to work on self-regulation or talking to another safe person, so that he isn't unintentionally projecting it all onto you. What are your thoughts? 💛
