Hearing Voices

Hearing Voices

Hi,

I'm suffering from hearing voices that starts with my narcissist ex every time she comes over the voices start again and they are extremely aggressive/hostile and when my house is finally cleared from them she comes back over (uninvited) and they start again. It's been a constant cycle for ten years.

The voices spit false offensive accusations at me 24/7 and even want to do serious harm and yes they are capable of physical harm. They hover over me when I'm trying to sleep at night shouting at me no one else hears them.

They cause me to get aggressive back and as a Christian I end up making the wrong choices and it creates disruption among my Christian community and they even begin to doubt my faith.

They don't really know what I'm experiencing and if I was to try and explain they wouldn't understand.

I've been reading the resistance strategies on this website and I will put them into practice they seem like they will be very helpful.

Thank you.

Re: Hearing Voices

Hey @ReVolved,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with hearing voices. I hear how you’ve been dealing with them for ten years and that they can be so violent and constant, 24/7. And when your house is clear from those voices, it starts up all over again when your ex comes over. That would be an exhausting cycle :(.

I hope that getting some of this experience typed out has been helpful in taking some of the stress off your shoulders, even if it’s only for a little while. You deserve to find these moments of peace 🍂.

It can be so isolating to not have people you can talk to about your experience, when you’re worried that they wouldn’t understand. You’ve been really brave to post about your experience today so you can receive that support from your peers here, who have that understanding and shared experience. I’m sure their insights will come soon!

I would imagine that you have an understanding of when the voices’ wants of serious harm become something stronger that could result in that physical harm, and have those ways to look after yourself before that occurs. If they do become too loud and overwhelming and you’re worried physical harm could occur, please do give 000 a call.

It’s great that you’ve been reading the resistance strategies here and found them helpful. What strategy to do you think you’ll try out first :D?

Re: Hearing Voices

Thank you so much for your reply and advice. The strategy I have been trying 9is humming and remembering to keep my mouth open when I hear them. I believe it works 🙂

Re: Hearing Voices

Is this a version of an inner critic? Do you otherwise hear voices when thinking? Or do you only hear this loud negative voice? It's really clever to know that you are in control and it's not really your voice by keeping your mouth open. Sometimes unless someone has experienced mental health struggles they can't fully understand. I always found great comfort in talking with peers who had lived experience

Re: Hearing Voices

My dear friend i have been where you are now for years, not my ex as with you, but all the people i upset being psychotic for hurting my own life, as well as others, crazed out of my mind, with P.T.S.D trauma fuelling years of psychotic raging.

You know how i laid those awful accusative voices to rest, as well as my raging? To forgive myself my wrong doing an ill person. Where rather than deny any wrongdoing, or blame my illness, i forgive those angry with me for hurting them while ill, as well as myself hurting them ill.

It took some time to materialise my friend, but once i was able to let love and forgiveness cleanse me from the anger towards myself, as well as those who wronged me, always fuelling these 'voices' in my head accusing, the voices began to die and turn to scars displaying bad times past, instead of suffering open sores caning me.
