Metabolic approaches to mental health

I don’t know the full story about all of this, but I have known a few older people, myself included who are going at least low carb, if not total ketogenic diets.

Worth knowing about these studies.

Took over an hour, but worth listening to. Thanks @Appleblossom .

Couple of things that interested me - problems with glucose metabolism are there before taking antipsychotics but are exacerbated, and the crossover with epilepsy. Mention of bipolar too. I can well imagine bipolar as a metabolic disorder. And some mood stabilisers in bipolar are also used in epilepsy. Many threads perhaps coming together.

@Dimity glad you thought it was worth it. I also wonder about the issue of access to quality food as a contributing factor to mental health generally. I found it interesting that one of the case studies featured an issue that hospital food isn’t the best. I now believe my whole food approach was helpful for my ex husband’s schizophrenia. I didn’t have an opinion about it at the time, just tried to do my best. Science is a huge shifting field.
