Hello fellow Peer Guides, my name is Oaktree. I am looking forward to working with you to hopefully get the Veterans Forum a bit more active.

Does anyone have any ideas that will engage the members?

I know it's very early days. I have only done one shift previously on Monday.

I am not getting any responses on the Veteran's forum.

Do you have any suggestions on getting things moving.

I plan to start a new thread and tag all the current members of the space that have been previously tagged. I just have to decide on a topic that will interest members. Is there any topic from the main forum that has been particularly successful? I know exercise is something that usually interests vets due to the PT requirement whilst in service. Exercise is fine as long as people don't mention specifics on distance/cals etc. It is not a subject that I know a lot about as I am particularly unfit.

Re: Engaging Members

Hi all!
@Oaktree - I’m not sure about specific topics - I like exercise as a good starting point  though.

Hey @Magpie22

Thanks for responding. I did a bit of a thread about exercise yesterday just asking a few basic questions. Feel free to add to it and take it in whatever direction you like.

How are you finding being a Peer Guide? Or is it too early to tell?

Re: Engaging Members

Too early I think. Tonight is my first official shift as a peer guide although I’ve been on the forums from the beginning.

You are way ahead of me then.

I have been a forums member for 4 years now but I love it

Hahaha - no just since the beginning of the shoulder to shoulder forums. You are way ahead of me if you’ve been involved

for four years.
what initially brought you to the forums?

I was googling mental health recovery and an ad for Sane popped up. Thought I would check it out. Took me 4 days to work out how to make a new discussion lol. I have learnt a lot about how to navigate the forums since then but there is still more to learn

What days have you been rostered on?

I am doing Monday and Wednesday from 5:30pm AWST and flexible weekends. I tend to be on the forums every day though anyway.

Re: Engaging Members

Thursday evenings for me.

I would like to do more, but my work is pretty busy right now so I’m trying to be realistic about what I commit to.

Last week as a peer guide, I tried starting a couple of new threads on the Veteran's space. I got very little interaction. Do you have any suggestions, or should I just keep trying and hoping for the best?
