Reaching out for hope

Reaching out for hope

Good morning everyone. A couple of years ago my husband had a breakdown. It was such a hard time to watch him go through this. Since then I have felt like he's never fully come back. He is medicated and has seen a psych, I question if it helped at all. However he is very distant, rarely looks at me, appears secretive, angry, unable to show emotion or empathy towards my son and I.

He and I have separated for now as honestly I think it was all getting too much for us both just constantly fighting and not enjoying each other's company in any way.

I feel at a loss right now, it's very much like grieving, which unfortunately I have already been through after loosing my first husband to cancer.

I dont know how to help him or what's ok or not ok to say. I still love and care deeply for him. But im in love with the man I knew 2 years ago not the shell that's left. This hurts more than anything I have experienced before. I just want to help him.

If anyone has anything helpful or uplifting to share I'd love some guidance.

Re: Reaching out for hope

I do not have answers for you; but i can tell you what has helped me.

Be there (k,I don't know how that translates when your seperated)

Listen to his needs; what is he asking for. Truly listen to what he is saying .

Listen to how he is feeling.

Find out what he finds helpful to him, eg avquite room & what he finds triggering.

Write it down as a plan. You execute the plan slowly and repeat as needed.
