Elder abuse

Elder abuse

Hi,

I've just been to see my grandparents, both approx 85yrs and I think my Nana is abusing my Grandad.

I dont know what to do. It sounds like a social worker has stepped in and has separated the both of them financially.. after.my Nana declared she wanted a divorce at Christmas time.

She had cameras set up so she can spy on him.

He is scared to sleep He lives on 3 hrs of sleep each say, catching uo on some Zzz while at dialysis. She's counting down the days until he die.

Re: Elder abuse

I'm so so sorry to hear about this. Have you every used the Elder Abuse Hotline? Depending on where you live, the number might be different.

Your Grand dad deserves better. Has he got his power of attorney sorted?

Hi @Killashandra

I really resonate with what you shared. My grandparents are in a very similar situation at the moment, and it brings me a lot of fear and anxiety. My strong sense of justice also means that this makes me pretty angry at times.

I'm glad that there is a social worker involved, and that they are somewhat aware of what is going on. It can be really hard when the person who is being harmed (including psychologically) is dependent on the one doing the harming. Even still, it can be really hard for a lot to change unless the person who is being harmed wants to take action.

I'm really glad that your Grandad has someone like you in his corner. Even if he's just aware that someone knows what's going on and that he isn't entirely alone probably makes a huge difference for him ❤️
