Starting new job after long hiatus

Starting new job after long hiatus

Recently graduated from social work after a long time off due to burnout and dealing with CPTSD, ADHD, addiction, anxiety and depression. It’s a huge step for me, and the role so far has been super supportive but I feel like I’m drowning. The training is full time for two weeks, and the other people who started with me seem to have it all together. Obviously I know that everyone has insecurities and doubts especially in new transitions, but I really feel alone in the weight of my past and current conditions. I know lived experience is valuable but I feel as though I have to be so considered in how I act and what I say constantly, it’s overwhelming. Just want to know I’m not alone.

Hey @Rk18 , sounds like a lot! I'm mindful that some people take longer than others to when transitioning to a new job, and I'm mindful employees often are aware too. Have you had a chance to speak to your employee?

I want you to know you are not alone. When I started a new job, I felt so out of place and so lost because I felt I had no idea what I was doing. It took a few weeks to warm up but after that, I felt I could be myself. Once I had that confidence, I then naturally performed better.

Thanks for your response @tyme. that’s a good point, and I’m only a couple of days in. I guess my inner critic is ready to find anything that suggests I’m going to fail. I did try to speak with one of the senior practitioners briefly, but in terms of my employer, I’ve really only been interacting with the trainer. I guess it might be worth speaking to her. It just feels like a lot to open up, and know how much to open up. It’s hard to know what’s appropriate.
