Life For Rent

Life For Rent

Hey SANE Forum,

Yesterday I did a drug test. I know Im going to fail it. I could end up in gaol. I can't see a reason why I shouldn't be there right now.

Thanks for a space to talk.

Talking helps me to clarify things because it forces me to be more logical, rational et cetera

When I think about my life, I get worked up. I get negative, pessimistic and feel down.

If I can talk to someone instead of thinking, thats most of the problem solved!

So:

My Problems:

1. I never get to see my kids

2. Drug and Alcohol addiction

3. Homelessness

4. Boredom

5. No Money

I think I'll just work on these problems for now.

I am a big fan of Problem Solving Therapy because it works for me. There are many other forms of therapy out there including marital, cognitive behavioural, but PST works for me.

Firstly, what I do is take a realistic Inventory. What I mean here is a list of problems, issues, concerns. Its a bit like doing strengths, weaknesses, oppurtunities, threats.

I've done my inventory above

So for this list, I need solutions...

1. I never get to see my kids

Well right now I need to go to Family Law Court because Mediation did not work.

I will go to Legal Aid and start the process.

-One hour or so out of my day

-Could take a support worker, if i need. At this point I will ask MHACA to take me and come in with me.

-Transport there: walk or go with a support worker at MHACA.

okaye, problem two:

Drug and Alcohol Addiction:

options

JUST QUIT.

Go to Rehab for 10 day detox, or 12 week program

Problems with that:
I dont want to be locked up in a place where I can't leave and do things.

So, 10 day detox, okaye maybe, if I cant quit in next three days without it.

12week: not at this stage, because I THINK I CAN QUIT without it at this stage

THINKING I can quit is not good enough for me. I must be a non-user. I must carry all the strength of a Non User. Strength to say "No" always. I must have an awakening: I enjoy being straight!

REMEMBER I get high on LIFE. Doing things is enough to make me feel a sense of accomplishment. This feeling of accomplishment gets me high. I can relax well when I have "done" something. Relaxing is soo relaxing. Its fun.

I hate to cut it short but will work on the other issues when i get the use of internet next, maybe tomorrow.

BE CERTAIN, TAKE ACTION, FEEL EMPOWERED

Dear Wild_Desert Rose,

Life certainly seems difficult for you at the moment. No, not difficult, ratshit. I admire your problem solving approach to dealing with each problem. I wish I could help you, but all I can do is remind you that you are a worthwhile human being. You are unique in the world - there is no-one else like you, ad you have your own special qualities which you bring to life. I am so glad you wrote to the forum, because here we are a community of people who support each other and that you can talk to when things are getting rough. You obviously want to change your life and I know you can do it. We all have the power within us for change and development.

I hope things get better for you, and that you manage to tackle your problems with strength. Life is harder for some of us than others, but we can all look up at the sky and see the beauty and freedom there and make it our goal. All my very best wishes,

Ellu,
