Managing thoughts of suicide & self-harm

I'm Stuck

I'm Stuck

I'm stuck. For context, I am 22 years old and I have had almost daily thoughts of suicide for 11 years. I feel like there is no reason for me to live. I do not enjoy living. The only reason I haven't gone through with it is because I have people who deeply care about me and I do not wish to hurt them. But I am at a point where I am getting help purely for others. Making it very difficult to actually get any progress as I don't believe any of the support I get will change how I feel. So now I am just a financial burden on my family as they sink money and time into trying to help me but getting no results or progress. Which is now making me feel even worse because if I continue like this, it isn't fair on them. But killing myself will also hurt them. I dont know what to do anymore.

Hello @MxLynx and welcome to the forums

I'm hearing that you're really struggling to feel any hope right now, and that even though you're getting support it kind of feels like you're just going through the motions for your loved ones. I can imagine that it would be pretty frustrating to not be seeing any progress from the support you've been getting, and that makes sense as a lot of talk therapy requires a certain amount of buy-in for it to have an effect, if you have no belief it's going to help then it's likely it won't. Of course, that's me assuming that the support you've been getting has been talk-therapy, is that right or have you been exploring a few different avenues?

I think it's understandable to feel helpless if nothing has changed so far, but I know that there are members on here who have felt the same, and then something has changed and they've found something that does help and have been able to find those reasons to live.

I am interested in your decision to post here, whether that's something that you're doing for your loved ones, or if it's something that you're doing for yourself? Either way it takes effort and courage to do, so good on you.

Re: I'm Stuck

Thank you for replaying @Ru-bee .

I have done multiple styles of therapy. Dozens of medications. Every year it feels like im adding another diagnosis to the list. Currently I got referred to the Sane 15 week recovery program. Alongside weekly online meetings with a psychotherapist. I used to have some feeling of hope that it could get better but the more things I try and the more they don't help the harder it gets to maintain that. I made the post because I just don't know what to do. And while no one in my life understands my struggles. I know that I am not the first to feel like this nor will I be the last. So maybe someone on this page has an answer that I haven't heard of yet.

I can understand that with each new thing that doesn't work it would make it harder to feel that hope @MxLynx

I'll be interested to hear how you find the recovery program, hopefully the groups will also give you some opportunities to hear other's experiences and things that have helped them.
