What motivates you?

I ask the question so I will offer my answers:

1. Learning something new is always something that motivates me. I want to understand how things work so I am motivated to learn how things work!

2. My brother is a strong source of motivation for me; he motivates me to be a better person.

3. Spending time with new people and learning their stories, where they came from, what they have experienced - this is very motivating.

4. My best friends motivate me for sure!

5. I would also say that I am motivated to do the right thing for its own sake. For example, I volunteer once a fortnight visiting an older person who lives in an aged care facility. I see my person for 2 hours every fortnight.

I like to also see these motivaters as protective factors and energisers.

For me:

1) This forums community - I feel lost without this community. It's been my forums family for over 7 years so this community that has been built means a lot to me.

2) Appointments - No matter how much I hate the appointment, if I say I'm attending, then I keep my word

3) Work - gives me stability and routine

4) Kids - they keep the child in me alive

5) New opportunities - I always like to learn new things

@tymethose are some really great answers. Thanks for sharing what motivates you! Why do you think it is helpful to know what motivates us?

As a person who is neurodiverse, I find these forums motivate me as well. I love how accessible the forums are for me. I am a very tech savvy person and being able to use these forums on my laptop is great.

I forgot something else that motivates me BIG TIME. That would be my local walking group. Every Saturday I meet up with my walking group, we walk about 3 kilometers and then we get a coffee at the end at the coffee house! My walking group is very dear to my heart, all of our members give so much to our group.

I reckon it's important because it keeps us going. When we feel we can't get out of bed, we consider the things that energise us so that we can break the cycle of oblivion @PositivePossum6

I am a gamer @tyme and I am currently having a blast playing Oblivion!

But your answer is excellent. Sometimes I find it hard to get out of bed, you know? I have experienced very bad depression before so I know how hard it can be to get out of bed.

As we head into winter, do you feel as though we might find it a little harder to get out of our very warm beds?

what motivates me

1) Sane forum, I have been here 10 years and I love making new friends here and keeping in contact with other members who have been here for awhile

2) my Specialists, and doctors, and nurses -- as it motivates me to keep fighting and not giving in to my physical problems

3) my husband who has many mental health problems -- keeps on going through it all

4) my 4 step children who have their own mental health problems, to be here for them

I certainly haven't been here for over 10 years, come to think of it I don't even know how long I have been on the forums.

In relation to 3 Shaz, I don't know you personally but I want to extend a very big thank you for standing by your husband as he manages his mental health. As I write, I am thinking of a particular person who I also know that is fighting their own demons, I stand by them too.

What motivates me

1. My dogs. They make me get out of bed as they need to be fed and attention.

2. My mortgage. It makes me go to work. Sometimes it’s hard to get there but I know I need to go.

3. The forums. The encouragement and acknowledgment I receive.
