Is he genuine or a scammer?

Is he genuine or a scammer?

I spend an inordinate amount of time playing Words with Friends and recently met a guy who has become my partner. The problem is how do I know if he’s genuine or a romance scammer in disguise?
All I can go on is my instinct he’s being truthful and how happy he makes me. Some friends who don’t know him think I’m being hoodwinked though which has me wanting to self injure which is something I’ve not done in many years.

I’d appreciate anyone’s thoughts on this please as online dating is all new to me.

Thanks, take care,

Abz

Re: Is he genuine or a scammer?

Hi Abz. It's great that you've asked this question, and I'm sorry that your friends' response has left you feeling so bad.

Romance scammers are experts in making people feel happy, and that makes us dependent on them for our next 'fix' of happiness, especially if we don't get that same feeling from skeptical friends. We all think it couldn't happen to us.

You could look at this page from Scamwatch - red flags to look for.

One thing that might help is to not make up your mind one way or another (scammer or true romance) now and then stick hard to that view. Always keep a part of your mind thinking objectively about this person and what they do and say. Scammers play the long game, and so should you.
