Missing my girls

Missing my girls

I had my children taken off me due to my extremely poor mental health. Nothing was offered to help me and my mental health became worse without my children. My children's mental health was also affected by having their mother removed. I haven't seen or spoken to my kids for over a year. I was blocked from all access when I tried to take my life. I realise now my behaviours affected the children and I want to make it up to them but I have no access. I've done a lot of work on myself but all that is seen are the "bad" behaviours, which were there because I was very unwell and needed help. I don't know what I'm really hoping to get from this post. I'm trying to get contact but it's taking forever and I miss my kids so much every day.

Re: Missing my girls

@Lite As a father of 3 myself, this breaks my heart, I'm glad you've owned your mistakes and faults, and have been getting treatment and taking positive steps. This also makes me thankful that none of my family know about me surviving my attempt at escaping this world.

I'm not sure of the steps you can take to get access again, I assume it would be legal or family mediation sessions. I assume you've been seeing a mental health professional and GP for mental health treatment, having this on record will also help your case.

You're not alone, there will be many others who are and have gone through what you are going through. Don't be afraid to reach out as these people that have experienced this will be more than happy to help you.

Gentle hugs @Lite

Are they close in age? Do you have family support?

As a child made a state ward from 6-10 years of age, I can assure you, my parents were important to me. Of course mother and children mental health are interwoven.

It shouldn’t be all about fault, although we all have to face up to adulting and adequate provision of care. The professionals should be able to see the big picture of the psychosocial circumstances. I question the wisdom of not permitting any contact. They have all sorts of protocols around supervised access. Demonising the parents is rarely helpful for children, no matter the circumstances.

I seriously think if I had terminal cancer I never would have been separated from my kids. I wish I had terminal cancer instead of a mental health condition.

I'm missing my girls so much. It just feels like there is no support for them or me. I'm struggling to keep motivated.

Re: Missing my girls

hey @Lite i can't imagine how hard it is to be away your girls, hugs to you 💗

i can see that you've been working hard on yourself, and i hope you don't forget the progress you're making. do you have any info on how/when you'll be able to get in touch with your kids?

also, what does your self-care look like? i know it can be hard to prioritise self-care when you're missing your kids and feeling unmotivated, but you deserve to pour some love to yourself - and this can help recharge some energy too.
