Intense feelings - BPD?

Intense feelings - BPD?

I've just joined here in desperate search for help with my intense feelings. I'm diagnosed with ASD (and am currently in the process of a clinical diagnosis). I live with my fiance & his friend and things have been ok until the friend started to bring women over to sleep with. I don't have feelings for him but I have a horrible intense.gut wrench that makes me hypervigilant, obsessive & morbidly jealous, which is of course impacting on my relationship.with my fiance. He keeps telling me to stop it or he's going to leave. I wish I could stop, but my stomach & head just won't quit. I don't know how I'm going to get through this long weekend before seeing my psychologist again (for 2nd appointment) & I'm afraid I'm going to lose control of myself and do something impetuous & stupid (its happened before). I'm consumed with mixed thoughts & feelings and I'm getting annoyed with myself. I did some research & find I relate very much to BPD, it scares me & I don't want to lose what I have. My meltdowns & episodes are more frequent & intense, & my fiance won't take much more. I don't want to be like this or do this to him. My home doesn't feel safe to me, even though I should have nothing to worry about, but I'm afraid my emotions are going to make me lose all I have.

Re: Intense feelings - BPD?

I have BPD and I can relate to what you are sharing. For me, the idea of anyone 'invading' my personal space was seen as a threat. It didn't mean I had feelings for the other person, but it was mroe about feeling left out, rejected and abandoned by them @Spiraling

Hence the emotional roller coaster prevailed.

For me, a lot of the work was around targeted talking therapy to work with the emotional dysregulation. Do you have a professional you can speak to about what you are experiencing?

Also, is there an option for you and your partner to live together without having an additional person?

Thank-you for letting me know your experience, that's exactly what I'm going through. I see my psychologist on Tuesday. And my partner & I are planning to pack up & go travelling together, so I hope I get through ok until things can settle down and I have my safe place to be.

I look forward to hearing how you go @Spiraling . All the best with your trip. Would you consider speaking to him about how you are feeling? @Spiraling

One thing about BPD is to work on effective communication. For me, when I was heightened or upset, communciation was pretty much non-existent. I had to work really really hard to practice communicating when things were tough so that people would know what was going on for me.

Another important thing is boundary-setting. I used to make others set boundaries, but through my recovery, I learnt that I was the one who also had to set boundaries for myself.

Take care, and hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks @tyme I made it through last weekend! And things are more settled so my feelings & hypervigilence have calmed down, Thank goodness! The fact that no one has turned up at my house has helped a real lot. And I saw my psychologist, & she recommended making an urgent appointment with my counsellor too, so I will see her again soon.
I will let you know how things go. Thanks so much for checking in with me!

When things start to escalate, take deep deep breaths. It can really help ground you @Spiraling

I'm so glad everything as been smooth.

For me, as a borderline, I'm mindful things can flip very quickly too.

I look forward to hearing how things go. Hope the counselling session helps. Sometimes, I find that writing things down to talk to the counsellor about can be helpful too.

I'm going well thanks @tyme 🙂 The weekend has been smooth (& no visitors have popped in - which has helped!) And I see my psychologist again tomorrow.
Hope you are well & good too.

Re: Intense feelings - BPD?

Do you think you want to speak to someone about whether you do have BPD? @Spiraling

For me, what was helpful about the diagnosis was to get targeted therapy. What was not helpful was the stigma behind it. So many times, when therapist see BPD, they seem to be dismissive.

All the best with your appointment tomorrow.

Re: Intense feelings - BPD?

Thank'you, I want to see if my psychologist mentions it. Then see how I go. I'm hopeful to get therapy for ASD, but if BPD is diagnosed then I wouldn't want it to be dismissed.
