What to do when you are being marked as "too complex"

What to do when you are being marked as "too complex"

My mental health is deteriorating, my physical health too is deteriorating. My health I've been told is likely linked to my mental health and my mental health is likely being escalated by my mental health. Had short help by crisis team who gave me a an anti pycotic check on me once and with drew wanting me to see a psyc. Now here I am 4 psychologist attempts later and I keep getting told I'm "too complex of a.case" and need a better perfessional but the better ones want like 200 a session, don't do medicare or won't do ndis despite me having the funds.. the last call I had denying me psycho access was a couple of weeks ago. Been trying to pretend it doesn't effect me but the truth is. It hurts bad.. I need and want help but no-one will help. GPS say my health possibly is liked to stress ect which my diagnosises do say that stress is a trigger but if my health is bad coz of mental health then why are they not trying to get me committed or trying hard enough to get me the mental health help I need. [edited by moderator] won't.help if u have a prescription drug problem. The system is fucked. Health system won't help, mental health system won't help, drug system won't help... erhh fudge em all..

hey there @Staceace111,

i'm so sorry to hear how difficult it's been for you. navigating both mental and physical health issues at the same time sounds incredibly draining, especially when you haven't had consistent support from a psych. i hear your frustrations and i wish i could do more to help, but for now, i'll sit with you and offer a listening ear. 💙

Hey @Staceace111

Firstly, you're not alone.

Being classed as "too complex", it does suck. It is a horrible experience, one I would only wish on my worst enemy (or my abusers for that matter).

I know it may feel different for everyone, but I know it made me feel

  • Too broken to be fixed
  • So screwed up that you give up
  • You don't see your worth and value because they couldn't see you for what you've been through
  • What did they do to me to make me this bad?

There are a lot of people in life who will throw you in the too hard basket.

But one thing that I've found here is that our complexities make us relatable. Our pain has purpose. We will never be too much here.

Yes so much of our system has its flaws, but it is us speaking of that shows the country that our system has flaws.

Sorry things are this tough. @Staceace111 I do hope you find someone eventually. I know someone having the same problems, being rejected by the so called professionals.

I am beginning to be disgusted in the profession for that practice. What about the Hippocratic oath? They like getting Medicare, so shouldnt it be mandatory for them to ensure people at least get seen and if unsuitable, at least get a functional referral and follow up. Take care

Re: What to do when you are being marked as "too complex"

Firstly, we don’t commit people simply because their mental health is having a bad effect on their physical health!!! You do not understand the Mental Health Act… that is not a sufficient rationale to take away someone’s fundamental human rights - thank Godde.

secondly, there is a solution to the problem of people not accepting NDIS - go self managed. And just don’t tell them you’re on the NDIS. Until months down the track and its plan review time and you ask for a report. Then you can ask for the report for NDIS purposes. You just have to make sure that you work on stuff that’s aligned with your goals. So that’s a simple fix. Call your LAC and say you want to be self managed and why.

Thirdly, there is a rationale for not working with complex clients - they tend to be a liability risk, so people would rather minimise their exposure, and (your post was hard to follow) require more appointments, which means that the psychiatrist can see fewer patients over all, so the more complex patients they see, the less patients they see in total, which some people think is not best use of psychiatrist’s time, so the complex patients tend to end up in the public system because of this… I’d encourage you to keep persisting and looking for a private psychiatrist, as they are affordable on the DSP, there is the Medicare Safety Net, but I know they are hard to find.

Sometimes, professionals accepting that you are outside their scope is the most appropriate action. And is actually required here in Victoria if they aren't equipped to treat you

Health care costs money. I pay $254 per session, which most fortnights leaves me with no leisure funds
