Something’s not right

How can anyone survive like this?

How can anyone survive like this?

I’m 50 with 2 teens shared custody and they are my world and I try to have a happy home for them but sadly the owners want friends to move in so I have been ousted,

trying to find a 3 bedroom place in area so I can have more time with the kids is a joke, the amount of knock backs I have gotten and the amount of places that I would not put my kids in and the ridiculous amount they are asking.
I keep getting knocked back because all the places of worth are roughly 48% of my wage and the “calculations” say I should only be spending 35%.
where in this day and age would you find a 1 bedroom place for $400 a week let alone a house. The annoying part is I’m already paying $600 a week and trying to move into places that are the same price. No defaults no problems. Just a dad trying to get his family back.
and yes I have reached out to all the agencies I know of and been told I earn to much. So which is it do I earn to much for help or not enough to have a home.
I just can’t win.
thanks for letting me vent.

Oh @Beleth , I'm so sorry you have found yourself in this predicament. It sounds so unfair. Do your teens work? Are they about to help out?

Even then, I can see how stressful this time is for you all. I hope you find a place soon. I hear you are doing your best to find something suitable... not to mention, the cost of moving.

Please know you have renter's rights if you need to stay a bit longer until you find a place.

I’m sorry to hear you are going through this, as mentioned you have rights as a tenant and I hope you find something sooner rather than later.

Sadly they don’t still too young, more tween than teen.

Fair enough. So they still need significant support as minors.

To flip that, it would mean you have more renters rights, even if it goes to court. I know a family who has been asked to leave their rental for a long time. They have been trying to get a place, but have been unsuccessful. This has gone to court and they have been granted additional time - because of the situation and because there are minors involved.

@Beleth

As much as you probably don't want to uproot the kids and take them to a whole new place, is there a chance you look outside your current area?

As I have the kids shared custody, and because of my work I would like to stay close but it’s become more and more apparent that I will have to move further out which means I get less time with them as they will stay at their mums for school.
