I have no motivation.

I have no motivation.

Hello, I am new here. I struggle a lot with motivation and applying the skills and tools I’ve learnt to help manage my BPD. Does anyone have anything that’s helped them with motivation? Anything at all, I’m open to trying whatever can help me help myself better.
Thank you.

Hey @03-JRS ,

Welcome to the forums. Great to have you with us.

Motivation and procrastination really like to creep in sometimes.

I have BPD, and to be honest, there are days I really have to push myself so I don't give in to passivity...

I find self-talk helps as well as 'rewarding' myself. e.g. I don't let myself do XYZ until I've done XYZ. This is more about boundary setting as opposed to 'punishing' myself though.

Routines also help. I schedule in breaks and keep a healthy routine so I know I have to do something.

Thank you, happy to have found this space and thank you for your response.

I’ve been looking into routines and ways to undo some of my not so helpful habits and create more helpful habits (and boundaries that utilise a rewards system).

On the days where I can regulate well enough to function I am far more likely to stick with the routine and work on healthy habits/boundaries/reward systems.

On the days where I’m in a depressive episode I struggle immensely though (which makes sense to me, the low motivation is higher on those days) and get overwhelmed.

All routines, boundaries, reward systems and healthy habits go out the window and I find myself rotting in bed crying all day.

Maybe I just need to keep practicing on those good days so it starts to become easier on the hard days.

Totally get that @03-JRS .

And I think it's about having boundaries, but also being flexible if you need them. When I'm feeling down, I know I need to push myself to get out of bed and be around people. But I also know I need to rest more so I give myself a balance, but I make myself get out too.

So it's finding the balance.

Definitely, flexibility is key for me, I’m very good at putting lots of pressure on myself so having fluidity within routines and boundaries is helpful.

Balance is key for sure @tyme

Hey @03-JRS , how are you?

How was your day today?

Re: I have no motivation.

Hello @tyme

It was a better day yesterday, I managed to push myself to do some tasks but today I can feel the heaviness of a depressive episode coming back. I’m with a friend and he’s helping me get back into working out so I’m hoping that will help shift how I’m feeling.

How was your day/is your day?

Re: I have no motivation.

Hey @03-JRS ,

I had a terribly crappy day, but i indulged in self-care today and I feel so much better. I can't complain.

I'm glad you have a mate to get you back into working out... whether you work out or not, that's not so much the issue. I think the issue is being accountable, and having someone helps with accountability whether it is having a cuppa or going out for walk - or anything.

Just do what you can, and if you need a dose of self-indulgence and self care, why not?
