BPD Splitting

BPD Splitting

Hi all,

I have been on a waiting list for a diagnosis but highly likely I have BPD, possibly with ADHD/autism. Last Sunday my partner told me she made a change to her life that directly affects me due to wanting to live her life in a way closer to the bible. I remember everything but I just went off over a couple of days, basically dumping on her religion, the bible etc. and reading back I don't think the way this reads when I am feeling ok. I think this was a splitting episode but I was wondering if anyone could give me their point of view.

Re: BPD Splitting

Hey @Shadow77, thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts with the community!

I hope you are able to get a diagnosis if you feel that it will be beneficial for you. Some people don't like labels, and others do, but a diagnosis can help you get the treatment and medications you need.

Other Members may have different views, but I believe that everyone has the right to choose their religion at any stage of their life. It may be challenging for you, but that is also a test of the relationship and what is important to both parties. Supporting the other person's decisions is part of being in a relationship.

At the same time I am atheist so if my partner was to want to be closer to the bible then I might struggle to maintian the relationship. And question if they were the right person for me or whether I looked over things that might have indicated this change might come.

I hope you work out what your partner's choices mean to you.

Take care

@RiverSeal thanks for your reply, however it wasn't what I asked. My question related to my reaction, as to whether that was splitting. There are certain changes to our relationship that will happen because of it that I found out without any discussion. No physical touch ie. hugs is one.

Re: BPD Splitting

Seems like your reaction could fit the description of splitting, but we can have traits of a diagnosis without necessarily meeting the criteria for a diagnosis @Shadow77 RiverSeal

Re: BPD Splitting

Hey @Shadow77 ,

I have BPD, and yes, from what you have described, I would say it can be described as splitting. Like when your emotions 'take over' and the 'reasoning' disappears for a time?
