Unsure if I'm getting enough support

Unsure if I'm getting enough support

I'm currently feeling a bit heightened and historically I'd try and contact my partner all hysterical and demand ...something... I dont even know what it is I'm seeking. I think it's just to feel loved.

Instead I'm turning to here.

I'm feeling like I'm not getting enough support from my partner and I don't know what to do and feel like I'm going crazy.

On the one hand, I recognise they're not my therapist and it's not their job to know all the answers to my problems. But on the other I feel a real lack of presence when they're not around.

They don't engage much with my messages, and it hurts even more because they encourage me to share my daily goings. But it feels like I'm sharing to a brickwall most of the time. How is that different from sharing a story on a socials and seeing everyone look at it and not engage. It's a bit disheartening coming from someone who's meant to care about me deeply.

Something I really love is heartfelt genuine moments of showing care and love. Engage with something I'm excited about, rather than waiting for me to tell, or do something unprompted.

I feel like I have to beg for their attention and affection and we only see each other about once a week at the moment.

We also last left on a bit of a sour note (me becoming severely triggered and starting a fight) and their energy has felt off and cold since. Like I only feel like I get affection when everything is okay.

This is just my perspective and I think half the battle with having cptsd is the constant feelings of warped reality and memories. It makes it really hard to disentangle what's real and needs to be addressed, and whats my triggers acting out.

I'm really lost. I don't know how to talk to them and I don't really have any friends I trust to speak to either, hence why I'm here.

These days are hard because I don't even have a friend to lean on, and they're not available when I need them to be.

Would really like some support, and ge

Hey @fruitisgood

I'm sorry you or any of us have to be in this position.I have similar thoughts about my relationship. I am still trying to work out the balance of my expectations of my relationship. I find it difficult to have friends outside my relationship which I think puts pressure on our relationship.

I find it very frustrating when I feel ignored and sometimes act inappropriately. I am trying to grasp the concept that sometimes I need to look elsewhere for expressing my thoughts and feelings to be heard. Here is a great place to do that for me.

My thoughts are that maybe if I look for my expectations to be met in other places, it takes the pressure on all my expectations being put on our relationship.

Not sure if it helps yet but still learning.

We are also trying to work on our communication but because of our different beliefs and experience's it can be challenging.

He gets overwhelmed with talking about emotions and my expectations.

No answers for you but hope some of my story let's you know I hear you and may understand what you are going through ❤️

@Glenn942 Thankyou for sharing. it does help and it gives comfort to be assured I'm not alone in this feeling.

We've been together 3.5 years now, and it's been a whirlwind to get to this point. Sometimes I question whether there's too much damage wrought. probably not helpful thoughts though.

I think what I find difficult is seeking and getting that support while I try to work on myself. Sort of like someone kind to hold my hand a little as I begin to try and branch out into unknown territory. it's much easier to take risks when you are assured you have a safe place to land/ come back to.

I've been trying to focus on establishing a sense of safety that doesn't rely on others. It's hard though because it also can easily morph into hyper-independence which is not a space I want to be in either.

I hear you @fruitisgood ,

Being able to find your own feet and having your own freedom to do what keeps you well is so important.

Do you have some sort of routine that keeps you well?

@tyme I've been working on my daily (or near daily) routines a bit more proactively lately.

It's hard most days, sometimes I do find some peace in the monotony

So true @fruitisgood . I've read that monotonous tasks that have a pattern/rhythm to them and not too much thinking involved, can actually be therapeutic.

I was tidying up my place today... a bit of spring cleaning.
