Night owls

Night owls

Is there anyone here that suffers from insomnia or just prefers the night life?

I'm awake at silly hours when normal people are sleeping. I'd much rather be sleeping but I have a brain that doesn't switch off.

Anyone else in the same boat and want to chat?

Re: Night owls

@Hopeandlove 👋🏼 I had insomnia for at least three years. But not anymore.

I do everything I can to have quality sleep.

Quality deep sleep is imperative for brain 🧠 health.

The brain's glymphatic system cleans toxins from the brain 🧠 during deep sleep.

Do you, do much physical activity?

Re: Night owls

Hello. I'm not able to do much physical activity due to health conditions. I have routine in an attempt to get enough rest but it doesn't seem to help.

Re: Night owls

Hey @Hopeandlove

I'm a natural night owl as well. What I do now is go lie down at a reasonable-ish hour (reasonable for me anyway). And then I try to sleep. If I can't sleep within an hour, I get up do something for 15 minutes and then repeat the same process. Overall, I know it can be very difficult to get enough sleep as a night owl, I sometimes prefer the calm and peace of night. And I will always gravitate towards spending time awake at night, but I do these days try to keep some sort of routine. Like you I have physical problems (I can walk but I have a spinal injury) that mean it's hard to exercise. Hope you get some better sleep soon.

Re: Night owls

The night time is nice and peaceful and I've always found it soothing to sit in darkness. I don't remember the last time I had a decent night's sleep but I don't have much on during the days so I am able to rest when needed. I also have that routine where I try to sleep and if not I find something to do for a period of time then I try again. I have scoliosis, arthritis aswell as other health issues so as much as I love to walk I'm not able to very often.

Re: Night owls

I’m a night owl also. I enjoy the quiet safety of the night but unfortunately I also don’t sleep well or even ‘get to sleep’ for a variety of reasons…. All of these ‘reasons’ stem from my MH diagnosis.
The ongoing struggle to get a decent consistent sleep impacts negatively on my days and creates a negative cycle that further affects my fragile mental health along with pretty much every aspect of life.
it has become a very difficult situation for me and I’m currently trying to find a psychologist to help me work through the ‘why’ of nights that are often filled with illogical sleep deprived panic.

overthink much? Why ~ yes I do… and I don’t know how to turn it off.

So often I am awake, in discomfort, wanting / seeking / needing sleep and yet unable to ‘get there’. Even with the assistance of a CPAP machine I can respond to attempts at sleep with the need to sit bolt upright in terror (at what I don’t know).
Sleeping tablets of the many varieties I have tried all go to creating a more ‘tired’ version of the waking day.
Restless Legs Syndrome can kick in after I take my evening meds causing the need to appease the agitation with movement, thrashing and stomping around the house.
I’ve been trying to address just this one issue ~ sleep ~ for so long with nil real advance.
It is a difficult circumstance.
Good luck with your journey towards better sleep hygiene.
