Feelings of low and flat

Feelings of low and flat

I had a nice day yesterday. Potentially made a new friend. Visited a loved one. Watched movies I like.

Today I feel completely out of sorts and miserable. As if yesterday didn't even happen.

I want to reach out and speak to someone, but the people I know I don't trust enough, and the ones I do aren't available.

I get frustrated when I vent and others have to ask me "what's next?" "what are you going to do to improve your quality of life?".

Chronic issues suck because you feel like a broken record.

I'm new here so still figuring out how these forums work. If this isnt the space to vent please let me know where it is ❤️

You aren't alone and we are here for you 😊

@Former-Member Thankyou. I think you're right. I just wish it didn't wreck me as much as it seems to do. It's like I get one good day, maybe 2, then I'm in the pits again for a week. Makes keeping up with social obligations difficult.

I'm trying to find more effective coping mechanisms for 'the pits' kind of days, but it's still quite a new course of changes and my usual go to's are not cutting it.

Currently trying to resist my not so helpful vices. Also struggling to sit still for more than 2 minutes despite being overtired.

@fruitisgood completely understand where you're coming from. I'm lucky to have a good day every now and then or even just a good hour. Thankfully I don't have to worry about social obligations as I don't have friends so I'm safe there, but I imagine it would only make things so much harder for you.

What sorts of things do you do to cope with your hard days? (Only if you want to share of course).

Resisting those unhelpful voices can be really hard. I know the feeling of not being able to sit still even when one is exhausted.

@Former-Member It's a vicious catch 22. Feeling lonely and isolated due to lack of connections amps up all the bs. But making and keeping connections zaps me of energy. I know I'll find my people on a logical rational level, but right now I don't feel that way. Not at all.

I like to go to the beach and swim, or ride my bike. Both are pretty active outlets. I also usually like watching movies but the TV is making me feel worse today and I can't tell if it's guilt and shame, or a genuine "I'm just sick of it right now" kind of feeling 😞

It's very hard today.

@fruitisgood yes there's a fine line between the 2 and it can be hard to find that balance.

Active outlets are great both physically and mentally. Watching TV and movies is also good but it can sometimes get too much especially if you are struggling to focus and sit still.

I'm about to sit on my bed and do some colouring as it's the one thing that really helps me focus and not act on my thoughts at least for a period of time. I usually play some music or watch a TV show while I'm doing it. And I'm also on here chatting to people to lei myself distracted.

Re: Feelings of low and flat

@Former-Member the struggle is real. It's hard to shake off that persistent feeling of being aware you're a dysfunctional adult. Worthy of love and care, but dysfunctional.

Colouring sounds really nice actually. you reminded me I have some craft projects I want to try.

That's the other thing I don't see people talk about much. The brain fog and lack of memory. I get sad I can't remember what happened during my week when someone asks me. when I'm alone I feel alive and colourful and vibrant but when I'm with others it's like I become dull.

I wouldn't mind finding spaces on here to chat about non mental health stuff too. Any you'd reccomend?

I've decided I want a lentil sandwich so I'm walking instead of driving to my local shop to get some tins. maybe the walk will help. I'm sure it won't make it worse.

Re: Feelings of low and flat

@fruitisgood very hard to shake that feeling, I totally get it. I'm definitely a dysfunctional adult 😂.

I love colouring and all sorts of crafts. There's a few threads on here of hobbies and others which I'll tag you in so you can have a look through 😊.

The brain fog is definitely real, i struggle to remember things from day to day and I hate when someone asks what did you do this week, like I can't remember.

Sometimes being social can be all too much, i have to put on an act so people don't see the real me in public which can take alot out of me.

Taking a walk sounds like a great idea and even better getting something yummy to eat.

I'll tag you in some threads so you can have a look when you like 😊
