Parent new to DID young person

Parent new to DID young person

Hi. New here. My 20yr old stepdaughter recently disclosed to me about hearing voices that influence her behaviour and being inhabited by different personalities with different names. I'm supporting her as best I can, but I find I need support too because it's turned my world upside down. I don't know what's real anymore. I've done and am doing the research into dissociative identity disorder, but I'd like to find a group or forum or something where I can go to and discuss my confusion, my fears, and my grief. Where do I go to for that group or forum?

Hello @Howtomakegravy and welcome to the SANE forums. I'm hearing that this has been a confronting time and it's natural to feel confused and unsure of how to best help your loved one.

Luckily you've come to a great place for support. There are carers all over the SANE forums, though if you're specifically wanting to connect with other carers and family members I'd suggest checking out the Friends, Family and Carers space.

You might also like to have a look at our webinar on hearing voices, while it's not specific to DID, it might help to hear other's talk about their own experiences of hearing voices to let you know that neither you or your daughter are alone in this.

What is the f**king point of this website if you're not actually going to put someone in desperate need of help with people that can help them. Is your 'welcome' even a personal thing or an automatic, computer-generated response? Right now, I need help and to date, you've been f**king useless. And by the way, before you get all and everything, the use of 'f**king' is an adjective used to express, which is apparently good for mental health, my frustration at this f**king waste of time on this website.

Hi @Howtomakegravy, I am sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the support you are receiving on the forums. The SANE forums are meant mainly as a platform for peer support, not for professional support and advise, which it sounds like it may be what you are seeking at the moment. If this is the case would suggest contacting mental health local support services or national ones like:

Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636

Samaritans: 135 247

or if in immediate danger: 000

While I understand that the use of the adjective you have chosen is meant to show your discontent with the service and not directed specifically at a member of the community, we still need to request respecting the guidelines and keep the conversations friendly at all times, in order to make sure all members feel safe and welcome.

If you do have feedback or complaints about our service, you are welcome to provide it to us by using the appropriate channels: feedback-and-complaints
