Another night of... I can't sleep and ongoing nightmares

Another night of... I can't sleep and ongoing nightmares

Hey all,

New here. Found this site looking for a online 24/7 counselling chat after another night of waking up in sweats and having nightmares. Well I couldn't find an online chat site, but came across this place.

I currently work in a frontline service role. Worked my butt off to get to where I am, although, my station manager has spent the past several years campaigning against me. The hostile work environment, coupled with an unsupportive workplace, lack of any internal career opportunities unless your part of a clique (making me feel even less valued at work), and gaslighting by the manager have created an unsafe working environment. It lead to me having a breakdown some years ago and moving away from family to another part of the state to work away from the toxicity.

I recently returned to my family and to the place of employment, only it has become substantially worse. The manager has been able to gain more power within the organisation and tarnish my name further after speaking out and now her and the group have higher management and union on their side, further campaigning against my dismisal by making it so hard for me that I will ultimately resign.

HR and senior management are aware of the situation, however, believe what my manager says and I feel as though I have just been made out to be a crazy person.

I work in an industry where the moment you have any mental wellbeing issue, you are medically removed from the service.

sorry for my rant, it's just another night where I cant sleep, and tread what is going to happen next in the workplace. I won't even leave my house anymore.

on a side note, I absolutely love my job and wont resign, the only real opportunity in my field is to work for a state service. And I dont want the bullies to win.

Hey @ButterBailey, welcome to the forum. I was just about to head off to bed and saw your post.

It must be do difficult working in such a toxic environment, especially when it's a job you love. The only thing I can suggest is to document every bit of communication you have with everyone. So at least if you ever need it you will have documented proof of what was communicated and it will never come down to your word vs someone elses.

I guess if it was, I'd like to think it would just make me act extra nice to them. Not because I wanted to, but because I know it would drive them crazy. If they were going to make my life difficult then damned if I would give them the satisfaction of showing it. Especially in what seems to be a no-win situation anyway. At least you could get some satisfaction from knowing their scheming appears to be insignificant to you.

I really hope something changes for you soon there. But whatever happens or whatever you do, don't let them make you feel like you have done anything wrong or there is anything that reflects poorly on you. That is all on them, especially the manager. Whether you end up staying or leaving, do it with your head held high and chose to do what is best for you. The best of luck to you.
