Nocturnal Panic Attacks

Nocturnal Panic Attacks

Hi All,

I'm BPD2, GAD/PD with Pure O OCD. Ive just recently started having agitation, insomnia at night and unable to sleep more than 4 hours a night. I am on medications to control, but they don't seem to work for the Noctural panic attacks. Does anyone have any tips for managing Nocturnal panic attacks and/or at what point would you seek help from an in-clinic visit?

Hi @Anonymouse1000

Sorry to hear you've been going through that, it sounds really uncomfortable for you.

I have experienced adrenaline dumping at night myself, with dysautonomia, and I managed it with deep breathing, cooling myself down with ice packs, distracting myself with something funny on TV, eating something, etc, until I was able to get it treated.

I would continue to follow it up with my treating team, or consider seeing a sleep specialist? Hope you're able to get some relief soon!

Hi @Anonymouse1000

I think half the battle is knowing what is happening. It's a really overwhelming feeling at the time, like a really bad rollarcoaster! 😅😵‍💫 What helped me was knowing it was just my body trying to cope and that I was actually safe.

Hope you are doing ok? Do you have pets or anyone you can reach out to when it happens? What have you been doing to cope?

Unfortunately we just lost our dog of 16 years and our other dog of 14 years last year. I have actually just been going to our spare room, and putting on a long nightly affirmation and gritting through it.

Hi @Anonymouse1000

Sorry for your loss. We're so lucky to have our pets in our lives, although never for long enough.

That sounds like a good idea to change the location, so your bedroom isn't a stressful place and listening to something positive to ride it out. How have you been travelling with it all this week?
