Loneliness companionship and waiting

Loneliness companionship and waiting

Hey.

I'm feeling a bit lonely and overwhelmed right now. It's hard for me to reach out. Yet I have but still feel isolated and unable to have the comfort I need.

The friends I have are leading me to bad situations. I find it hard to find the right people.

My therapist just reckons I should talk the councelers and feel secure and try attach to them. Like I do with her. But the counceler will go away after some time and sessions.

Hi @CHAMA

Welcome to the forums. It's not an easy thing to reach out, as you mentioned, so good on you for posting on here.

It can be really difficult to find the right people for us sometimes. I'm wondering what the right people would look like for you?

Re: Loneliness companionship and waiting

Hi @CHAMA. I remember the first time I reached out, it was extremely difficult so you've done really well to take that first step. I've found the people here extremely supportive and I have made some good connections so hopefully you can find it equally helpful.

I also found some local groups in my area. Mainly support groups, but also a men's group, which has been fantastic, and a board games group. So I just keep looking for things where there are more likely to be people I will connect with. So just keep looking and hopefully you will start to find more and more people to make good connections with.

A big part of this has be to change my thinking about trusting people more and being more open with people. So that has been a big part of the changes I've made this year, is to try and see myself in a more positive way, and not being so negative. I've also tried to reduce the amount of people in my life who aren't their to help me and support me. It's amazing how freeing it can be. I wish you all the best in your fight against the isolation. Its no easy and it takes time, but it can be done.

Hey @CHAMA

Good on you for recognising when you are being lead down the wrong path. I know that it's really tough to make connections with people, I find it a challenge myself. I have done a few things to meet new people. I used the app Meetup to find groups on things that interest me and I have found groups in my local area as @MJG017 suggested. I think the hardest part of find good groups is knowing about them. Is there any chance that you might try looking into groups local to you or groups on topics that you enjoy?

Re: Loneliness companionship and waiting

Hi! I'm new to forums, and I can empathise with what you're saying. Also, it takes a lot to be able to tell anyone about it. The important thing is that you've taken a step, no matter how small toward what you want.

Recognising that your friends are not giving you the health you need is great in the sense that you have a bearing of where you don't want to be. Finding the right people will be hard at times and it may result in changes that others may not agree with, but your health is paramount to you and it should always be that way.

About the problem of people going away, I've been told that all relationships have an expiry, and it's taken a while to wrestle and come to grips with that, but it's true in a lot of ways. Remembering good things of those relationships are what can spur you on to form more relationships. 🙂 Hope that helps!

Hey @GorionPax just a lil tip, if you want other members to be notified that you've responded, you can tag them - use the @ symbol and a drop down will appear, and you can choose their name. If their name isn't there, you can type it out and it should then appear for you to select, then it will show up in blue, like this: @CHAMA 😁

@Jynx Thanks! Sorry, I didn't realise! I do ICT, I should know better haha.

Is this applicable to quick post also?

Re: Loneliness companionship and waiting

@GorionPax haha all good! Unfortunately not at the moment, but it is one I have flagged with our IT crew so it's on the list for upcoming improvements. Since you're in ICT I'm sure you can imagine that could take anywhere between two weeks and 11 months 😅

@Jynx haha yeah, it always sounds like a simple thing, but it ends up being three times as involved as it seemed on paper!
