Sunday Depression

Sunday Depression

Hi 👋

I've suffered from depression and anxiety going back to my first memories as a child. I'm now 55. I've been on medication for the last 30 years but nothing has helped even though I've been to different psychiatrists.

Has anybody ever felt ' normal' from their medication?

On Sundays I get depressed in anticipation of the coming week as the daily anxiety at work is sometimes unbearable.

Suicidal thoughts are with me almost every day but I don't believe I will ever follow through with it as there is also much blessing in my life.

I don't really have any particular purpose in posting this. Maybe just wanting to share.

Hi
I hear you. My anxiety and at times depression is heightened on Sundays too. It’s such an isolating feeling. I’m sorry you’re struggling.

Hi @Def, welcome to the forums. Sometimes it's all we need... just to get those thoughts out from our head and just out into the world. It's usually not easy to do.

I'm not on medication for depression myself, but I have heard people say they struggle to function with out them, and i've heard people say they wish they never started on them... all sorts in between. I guess it like a lot of these drugs, even outside of antidepressants, everyone reacts to them differently. If you've been on them for 30 years you'd think the dosage was as already right for you. But it sounds like you are still struggling quite a bit even with them. I wish I had some advice for you in dealing with these drugs, but hopefully someone will see your post and have some advice for you.

I know you said you don't think you'd ever follow through with those thoughts, but have you ever talked to one of those crisis lines? Just to talk things through. After 30 years, I assume you've talked to a lot of people already? There is a guided service here you may want to look at... https://www.sane.org/referral

Sorry that I didn't really have any advice for you, I just wanted to welcome you to the forum and let you know you are welcome to share as little or as much as you feel like. Take care Def, and keep thinking about those blessings.

Re: Sunday Depression

To answer your question about ever feeling normal
from the medication.. I have been on and off most of the anti anxiety/ depressive medication since I was 17. I’m now 50 and haven’t taken any regular medication for about 5 yrs. It just doesn’t work long term for me. For me, I take the occasion 1/2 a sedative and I find that most effective in allowing me to feel normal. Or what I assume “normal” feels like.

Re: Sunday Depression

Heya @Def

Gosh I feel you on the Sunday Depression.

I'm feeling it right now - looking at the week ahead and I somehow already feel overwhelmed and exhausted.

I'm happy to hear you say there is much blessing in life - it's those blessings that can really pull us through in those dark moments.

To help with the Sunday Depression, I like to plan something on Wednesday as like a mid-week pick me up. Dinner at a new restaurant, getting some tasty treats and watching a movie on Netflix... doesn't have to be fancy, but it's something I can think of when it's 9am tomorrow and I'm already pulling my hair out at work.
