Any Ideas

Any Ideas

I have just got out of a Mental Health Ward today as the doctors claim I’m fine and don’t need to be in hospital even though I was still feeling quiet unsafe and I am feeling so overwhelmed and alone. I don’t have any family only a few friends that really don’t get my mental health struggles. I have been diagnosed with BPD and Complex PTSD. Any one have any ideas how I can cope

Regards

Re: Any Ideas

Welcome to the forums @Alecam ,

I'm hearing you as someone with lived experience of BPD and hospital admissions.

I hear how hard it is for you right now.

When you were discharged, were you given some numbers you could call if you felt unsafe?

What would you ideally have wanted to happen with your hospital admission? That is, what does 'support' look like for you.

Please know you are not alone.

Re: Any Ideas

Hey @Alecam

I'm sorry this happened to you. It's tough when the doctors don't listen to people when they are feeling unsafe. Do you have any other supports in place currently? My suggestion to you would be to see if you are near a SafeHaven and if you are (and it's open) drop in there. If you are not near a SafeHaven then my suggestion would be to call LifeLine and have a chat. Do you have a mental health care plan in place with your GP? If not, then Monday I would try to find a bulk billing doctor who can write you up for a mental health plan so that you can access the 10 psychology sessions. In the meantime, come to the Peer Group Chat on this forum on Sunday night from 7 to 8:30pm. When I am in a situation where I'm feeling unsafe I try to put as many support services into play as possible.

@Alecam

I am so sorry that you were put out of hospital before you were ready. As suggested before there are crisis phone lines you can call if you need to talk to someone. There is this forum to help distract you. Also can you think of any other distractions you could use to stop yourself ruminating? Do you like to listen to music for example. Could you do something that involves your concentration like putting a jigsaw puzzle together?

I would definitely be calling my supports on Monday if I were you, such as the community clinic if you are in their care or your GP. Do you have any friends that you feel like you could talk to? We are here for you, sitting with you! Also welcome to the forums

Re: Any Ideas

Hi @Alecam, welcome to the group. It must be a really difficult position to be in with still not feeling safe after being sent home.

I think it is probably a good idea to come up with a plan for what to do if you start to feel yourself beginning to become overwhelmed. Write do a list of people or services you can call. Just knowing you have a plan and a list of people/services you can talk to may help to give you same confidence. We're all here to support you as best we can so use the forum and just post about how you're feeling... or anything really, as just interacting with people will probably be helpful. Try to keep yourself occupied with things you enjoy. I know it's probably difficult right now, but just try to relax and stay calm and just do whatever helps you do that.

Take care of yourself Alecam, and don't feel like you need to do this alone. Let us know how you're getting on, and reach out straight away if you start feeling like you need to.

Re: Any Ideas

Hi @Alecam, I’ve just joined this group and it is already helping me as I never knew how many people feel like me and have similar experiences. I have some support but I have a lot of time to myself. Jumping on here is comforting to me and reassures me that I’m going to be ok and I can have bad days but come here and feel supported. I hope it can be that way for you too
