Recently diagnosed with ADHD,amongst the other diagnosed issues , PTSD, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION TRAUMA

Hi, I am struggling so badly at the moment, and feel like I have hit rock bottom. Although in a very supportive relationship(which is now suffering) as we are both butting heads with communication issues cause all of a sudden my partner has decided he's a psychologist and been thru it all... however he has been thru a bit but completely different experiences. We love each other endlessly and are willing to try anything, but I don't even know where 2 start...

I've recently started meds for the ADHD but off all other meds currently.

I have recently lost my job, after only just going back 2 work after a time off work following coming thru cancer just to top it all off....

I don't know what to do I want help and am willing to do anything but currently flat broke...

At my wits end... and don't want to give up

Hi @Where2start, welcome to the forums

It can be really hard when a loved one tries to take on that role of therapist, especially when it sounds like he was doing a good job of being a supportive partner before this.

It sounds very understandable that you two would be butting heads in this situation. Has he been able to recognise that he has been adopting this role when you talk to your partner about this?

Aside from your partner, what supports do you currently have in place?

It really sounds like you've been experiencing everything life can throw at you. I'm really glad that you've found this space to connect and share a bit about what you've been going through.

Hello @Where2start, welcome to the SANE forums,

My I ask how long have you been together?

Relationships can be hard work at the best of times, with so much going on and so much you have been through lately, it is no wonder you're having a hard time and you feel your relationship suffering.

My partner and I both suffer from complex mental health and we have certainly butted heads, had communication issues and overcome a lot. One thing I have learned is that no matter how much you love somebody, you have to take care of yourself first. Its like how when you go on an aeroplane and they tell you that you must fit your own oxygen mask before helping others. We cannot control or change other people but we can help ourselves, an interesting phenomenon of this is that most of the time, it inspires the other person to do the same.

So with that in mind I'm wondering how are you prioritising and taking care of yourself?

Have you got much support outside of your relationship?

Are you practicing any regular self care?
