I feel rubbish

I feel rubbish

Hey first time poster new to the site. Diagnosed with Bipolar 1 many years ago. My problem is I feel terrible. My psychiatrist changed my meds around a month ago and I'm miserable I cry I have no motivation.

I've been accessing old crutches, [edited by moderator] to try and feel better. I know it's dicey but I just want to feel better.

TW: Self-Harm

Content/trigger warning
I don't know what to do, the illness is telling me to self medicate a glimmer of insight is warning me this could be dangerous.

I just want to feel better.

Appreciate any insights you have.

Thank you and take care

Re: I feel rubbish

Hey @Cbear ,

Welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear things have been so tough lately.

Do you link your symptoms to the new medication? Or is it the withdrawal from the first med? If it is to do with medication, and there are continued effects such as this, it's best to speak to your treating team.

At the same time, what are some things that you find you enjoy, or things that you find calming? This may be helpful at this time.

When things get really bad for me in the past, I'd turn to distractions just to keep myself from thinking.

Do you have any psychosocial supports you can talk to?

Re: I feel rubbish

Hi @Cbear do you have a follow up with the psychiatrist. Maybe if there is a countdown to that it could help you stage off the other thoughts. That's how I get through those sometimes- I tell myself just hold of until X and then if I still feel that strongly I can. Sometimes the feeling is less by then and I can stage it off longer.

It also sounds like this is something worthwhile discussing with your psychiatrist and if you don't have an appt soon maybe reaching out to them and seeing if you can be seen sooner/ waitlisted for sooner

Re: I feel rubbish

Thank you for caring. [edited by moderator] I stayed up all night and now I'm only irritable, at least I'm not crying. I so badly want hypomania. I will ring my psychiatrist tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment. I'm terrified I won't.

Re: I feel rubbish

Hey @Cbear ,

I'm sorry to hear it was so hard.

I hope you get an appointment. Let them know you really need to see someone asap. I believe some services need to make space for urgent appointments.

Otherwise, ask them to put you on their waitlist.
