How to cope when you lose an important cultural link

How to cope when you lose an important cultural link

My Mrs was up in the night with our little crew last night and woke me up to let me know read that our local cultural centre announced on their social media that they had closed affective immediately

I am so sad

I visited all the time with our little ones

it was Free to go visit and see the animals and teach my kids culture

i felt really connected to the people there and i  Wanted to volunteer

I felt a part of the community

I am really devastated

that was a huge connection for me to other people and for my kids too

Hey @ArraDreaming,

I'm very sorry to hear that has happened, it's very sad that you, your children and your mob will miss out on that cultural knowledge and connection.

Do you have any community groups or yarning circles in your local area? As you'll all need each other for support.

I'm thinking of you and your community, and I hope that something good will come out of this…

@defaultusername
They are reopening under a different org, an aboriginal corporation as well
but when I found out it had closed all the community knew was that it was closing indefinitely so
That’s good news, not sure when it will happen I don’t think in time for naidoc week though

gosh thats a lucky save. The under-funding of Aboriginal controlled entities is a travesty.

We don’t have anything like that. We have a really negative history here. Most of the aboriginals were chased out. My great great grandmother said she was Māori so that she was safe.

Yeah I think interesting to learn now it was owned by a church up to now (while still employing and being run by First Nations people) so it is now rightfully being handed back to traditional owners and the co op @RachSANECEO it really rattled me to start with when I thought we had lost it
