Just surviving...

Just surviving...

I am on two weeks break from my entire support team. I return back to DBT on Tuesday but all I can focus on is my destructive behaviour. I gave in on Thursday. Which resulted in an Emergency department visit and a chat to mental health acute care. It made me feel better from acting on it, however all I can think about now is acting on it again. I just don't know if it's worth it. I'm struggling.

Re: Just surviving...

Is there anything you can do now to distract yourself? Go for a walk, watch a movie, pat your pet.
I was also taught this awesome ice technique in hospital last week - Get some ice and hold it against your wrist or inner elbow, or in your hand/under your feet and hold it as tight as possible. It's not magic, but it really takes the edge of self harm urges.

Re: Just surviving...

Hi @Mimm, hang in there, I'll tag you in a couple of threads with good tips to read, to get you through (Grounding techniques & Safety Plan). Can you door some deep breathing, craft or watch a fav movie tonight? Tomorrow is a fresh start, contract yourself not to act on SI, at least not before calling someone. I find talking to someone on crisis lines +lifeline, suicide callback, beyond blue) sure takes the edge off its power. Hug xox

Re: Just surviving...

Hi @Mimm, I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling without your team, that must be so tough!! Before the two week break did you and your therapist/case manager talk about a plan to manage these types of situations while you weren't getting as much support? Do you have a safety plan?

Re: Just surviving...

Hello @Mimm

i feel for you having such horrid feelings returning after already being hospitalised.

your feelings must be all over the place.

we often get told to distract and whilst this can be useful sometimes, if we are past that point the best thing we can do for ourselves is talk to someone as @Former-Member advised

lifeline no 131114

others are listed on one of the pages on here i just happen to know lifeline no off by heart.

please look after yourself and give yourself another chance you have come this far make that phone call.

take care

Re: Just surviving...

Hey @Former-Member, @Former-Member, @Former-Member,

Thanks for responding. The acute mental health team said I could call them after they spoke to me on Thursday but I just can't bring myself to call. And it was a huge effort to even post on here. Before break, I did go through some distractions, techniques and ways to get through. Even have a daily plan of what I am meant to do so I'm on a routine. But finding it all seeming to fail since Thursday. So yeah I don't know what I was seeking while it when I posted as I can't even dial the hospital number at the moment.

Re: Just surviving...

I can definitely understand what a big step it is to post on the Forums, or contact the mental health team for support. You're showing so much courage and strength by reaching out. I hope you realise that!

If you can find that extra bit of strength, I would really encourage you to make that phone call. It sounds as if you're really struggling tonight and having that additional support might be just what you need to start fresh with your daily plan and routine tomorrow?

Whatever you decide, take good care of yourself and thanks for sharing your experience with us. We will be thinking of you and sending you strength!
