HOLIDAYS

HOLIDAYS

Last day of school today, and im so relieved! its been a long year by any standards. But i'm also nervous with 4 weeks of nothing stretching ahead, and alot of that with kids gone and son's surgery. i know.. maybe i'll always find a way to be unhappy?

Re: HOLIDAYS

@Former-Member. Congratulations on getting through the year. Yoyr job is a tough one.
Your concerns for the holiday break are valid. So how do you think you can use your time, to keep busy?
Do you have any plans?
Maybe it's the time of year to visit with old friends and have long lunches.
Maybe you can focus on relaxation and meditation. Every day taking time out to mentally relax.
Shopping in the big cities with a girlfriend or family member.
A project around the house - the garden.
Sorting through photos and putting them into albums.
Decluttering and getting rid of the old.
Spending time in nature - going for walks - having a swim.
What would you like to do and achieve this holuday?

Re: HOLIDAYS

It has been a long year! I am in the same situation, children off school and time stretching ahead. I know for me I've been making plans so it puts the time into achievable chunks. Plan 1 day, 1 week at a time. It's also quality time i hope. Take care of yourself as then you can be the best parent. Wishing you all the best for your holidays

Re: HOLIDAYS

Hi @Former-Member

Yep the christmas holidays can be uncomfortably quiet for some. @utopia had some great suggestions of minin-projects and things to keep one busy and content.

I would only add a binge watching weekend of Offspring, Outlander or some favourite series like that.

Enjoy some time for you 🙂

Regards,

Frog

Re: HOLIDAYS

Thank you @utopia @Former-Member @Former-Member

all good suggestions. I'm not sure i can plan too far ahead but for today i am dropping my kids off at their dads and then i'm just going to sleep. tomorrow i think i need to get presents wrapped because i still want the kids to have something from me even though they wont be with me. they'll get it eventually. everything else seems to hard today.

Morning @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @utopia

Haven't met most of you so far (has only been a week - still finding my way around all the posts).

@Former-Member When I'm working and the holidays finally get here I find I sleep most of the first few days - relief it's over and exhausted from so much happening in the last few weeks of school. So just let it happen - the rest of the days will follow when you're ready! xx

Re: HOLIDAYS

@Former-Member, big hug, be brave. So many broken families go through this. I was wondering, is it possible to give gifts or Chrissy dinner today, so you have the memory to carry u through? Just a thought, helps me. Understand the sleeping thing too, let it recharge you. Stay strong, be gentle on yourself xox

Re: HOLIDAYS

Thanks @Zoe7 i hope you can rest and catch up over the next week. yes last term is always fairly insane.

@Former-Member no i dropped off kids this morning to their dad. they will b home tomorrow night (assuming he does stick to the plan he finally agreed to at the 11th hour). then they'll go back to him next thursday. i dont know whether to do christmas before they go back to him or wiat. Doing it before, i'm worried that it'll come across as one upping him or getting in first i don't know how its supposed to work. and also worried that i'll have nothing to wait for if i've already done it with the kids. feel like im breaking now. was hard to say goodbye to them today, next week will be impossible.

Re: HOLIDAYS

Dont second guess yourself too much .. its not worth anticipating how anybody else interprets your intimate christmas time with your children. @Former-Member Do it when you can comfortably set it up to work in a way that makes you feel better.

Personally I'd go for before .. as you are not into competitions anyway .. which I know from last year .. do it in your lovely quiet low key .. genuinely YOU manner.

You are taking turns on the day ..year by year .. lots of people do things with various family members before.

Congrats on getting through this year ... ACE!!

Sleep is also GOOD>

Re: HOLIDAYS

My two cents @Former-Member is that you need to have Christmas when you want. He can't dictate or accuse you of anything more than having Christmas with your children. It is none of his or anyone's else's business when you choose to do it. Personally for me I always did it before Christmas. It meant I could put it behind me and let go of it. You will work out what works for you though. Whenever it is that you celebrate it try to not worry that it doesn't feel right because it's not the right day. I held that a bit. If I try to remember now I honestly couldn't tell you which Christmas's were celebrated on the day or not. I just remember things like 'that's the Christmas the kids got the trampoline' or that's the Christmas we all sat outside etc. none of those memories are about which date it was. At the time it didn't feel that way but it's funny what our memory does. I really hope this helps.

I hope you get to recharge those batteries. You have done so amazingly well with everything you have gone through. It's ok to have time for you whether it's with the kids or with out.

Sending hugs 💜🤗💐

Re: HOLIDAYS

Thank you all

I'm going to do christmas tomorrow. and then its over with (not the right spirit i know). the kids will go from me happy though. My lil boy is sad about going. keeps asking over and over how many nights it is.

I'm exhausted with this cold/flu. i've even made an appointment at the drs. can't remember the last time i was so sick.

everything feels so awful at the moment, things have just compounded into so many issues that i feel trapped. cant face anything. advice from people that this will pass and that they know me and that i am ok, that i'm not alone, that this will pass as well, all feels fake and not real (though i know they really mean it and do care). i cant imagine anything beyond handing over my kids on thursday.
