Boredom and depression

Boredom and depression

I don't know what to do anymore I am so bored. I care for my mum and all she does is watch tv and its so boring. I don't have any money to go out or any friends to talk to and I don't know what to do with myself. I have a daughter but shes getting more independant and doesnt want to play.

I think I am starting to have depression again because all I want to do is sleep and I have no appetite.

Any suggestions apprecited.

Ooooo! @pinklollipop15 So great to see you!

I'm sorry that you are feeling so bored just caring for your mum.

Is she able to get supports in place so that you have respite? Would you consider doing some work from home just to give you some routine?

I'll be here tonight if you need a chat.

Once again, it's so great to see you after a long time!

Thanks

@pinklollipop15 I think feeling 'stuck' or 'trapped' can really affect people in this way. Is there a way, such as respite, as suggested above, to help you feel less stuck?

I am stuck at home myself until a course starts and I also have no appetite at all or any motivation to do anything. I sleep in for as long as possible and nap during the day as well. Until my course starts and I'm going out and being surrounded by new/other people, I am bound to feel trapped in the house.

Caring for someone alone can be difficult. I hope you can find a way around it. Usually my mood lifts a lot with challenging exercise when I am motivated enough.

I do understand though,

xo Rose.

Re: Boredom and depression

Hello @pinklollipop15. Boredom is subjective, just like loneliness. We can be in a room filled with 500 people and feel lonely, however we can be alone and not feel lonely. Just like with boredom, we can have stimulating objects around us and still feel bored, or we can be stuck in a room with nothing stimulating and not be bored.

When we want to escape boredom, it is good to think back to our childhood. When we were children, we were never bored as our creative mind ran wild. All of us have hidden talents and interests, finding an activity related to our passion can make us feel engaged in life. There are a lot of free or very low cost activities that are related to our passions, we just have to know where to look.

However, as long as we have unresolved stress or other issues in our life, we can never be focused. As mentioned previously, you need some respite to think carefully how you want to get the most out of life.

Let us know how you go!
