AITAH for wanting to go out

AITAH for wanting to go out

So it's always been a problem, but has reduced over the yrs. I'm not able to go out with friends without feeling like garbage. Yrs ago I never went out because I believed I was selfish and mean for wanting to. These days I fight for it, and damn I have to fight. Most recent example...

Girls at work asked me to go with them for a night away, girls night thing and go to the big markets and winery near where we r staying. I told him about 2 months ago and was met with 'y would u want to do that, u do even like that stuff, I just think it's stupid and a waste of time and money'. Feeling guilty and horrible for wanting it, I fought and explained it's more about the girls night than anything. When I didn't agree that I was stupid for wanting it he said 'we were spose to go to those markets (coz I had mentioned I wanted to yrs ago when we were nearby but they weren't on that wkend). So then it was all about me taking an experience from him (even tho we could go another time, but apparently it's not the same if I've already been).

I don't exactly remember saying it, but apparently I said I wasn't going. Now me yelling 'FINE I WONT GO' sounds like wat I would do when I couldn't fight anymore. Nothing else was mentioned after that, I forgot about it even. I got reminded about the wkend the other day and reminded him. He made a snark comment 'u mean the trip we were meant to take?' I said no we could've gone another time. He left it, now I realise he left it becoz I had already promised him sex that night. Then last night... when I got home... he said it alright. Now I have apparently been lying to him for the last month planning away, and what else am I bullsh1tting him about. I took an experience from him and I lied to him and am so rude and and disrespectful for it... now I see this all very different. I see him being an AH controlling piece of xxx u can't stand me being away from him and doing something for me.

We don't have the best relationship and don't really spend another time together, I hang out in my room and watch netflix in my spare time and he hangs out in the shed doing his own thing. But it's my fault we don't hang out coz I won't leave my room. Partly yes but not all me. I like my space and we have nothing to talk about when we r together. We have made small changes lately like Saturday coffee dates with a walk on the beach so we at least have that time.

AITAH for wanting to go? For going out with the girls maybe 5 or 6 times a yr? I have to fight so hard and feel so miserable to have it. Maybe I am the AH.

He says come out of my room and hang out with him, but I sit and get bored while he smokes and watches Fishing, so I go back to watch my shows. I dunno.. just needed to get this out I guess without screaming.

Hi @lotus85 , it's definitely natural and healthy to go out with your girlfriends socialising.

It's unnatural and unhealthy to not go.

I hope your boyfriend isn't the controlling type, trying to control you and isolate you? It doesn't sound like a healthy relationship to me (but I'm not an expert on relationships!).

Re: AITAH for wanting to go out

@lotus85 I love that you wrote here, & described how you needed to get it all out, without screaming. Well done. This is such great way to respond to life's problems.

I don't know if I can anything to what @NatureLover has said.

Off topic - personally, I would love to want to go out. I do ..... & I don't. It's so much energy. - I don't have a nice group of gfs to go out with anyway. The girls in school were total b_s. I thought they were my friend s!! I still have great memories of going out drinking & dancing. I wonder if I will ever do that again?

Smoking & fishing sounds boring to me.

I wouldn't mind going fishing - but watching it on TV?? Not my thing.

Thx guys. Appreciate the words, and @StanD I totally get wat u mean. I'm sure u will get ur groove back. My girls r my work girls and they r so much more my advocate than my 'partner'.

Re: AITAH for wanting to go out

So this morning he says ' do u even know y I'm p1ssed?'. I replied ' yeh, coz I told u wat u wanted to end an argument I couldn't handle anymore'. So he tells me I'm a liar, how many other times have I lied to him, I xant be trusted. I said 'whatever make me the villain, that's fine. But I'm still going on the wkend'. His reply..... his fxxxing reply.... hope u have somewhere to live. Ffs.

We have a house and 3 kids and can't afford to seperate. I've looked at it. Wtf do I do with that. I'm so angry I'm crying rn.

Re: AITAH for wanting to go out

I am so sorry this is happening to you @lotus85

From what I'm reading, you have done absolutely nothing wrong.

I didn't understand the gravity of your situation when I first replied. (Internet ! It's difficult)

My first thought is to call 1800respect.

Only because this is what I did & it was a turning point for me. I wasn't able to see clearly enough. Have you ever called them before?

Thankyou for your earlier reply. I look forward to getting my groove back. I love that term. Advocate is such an important word.

My next thought - & this is likely extremely innapropriate for me to say, & I am definitely not a professional....AND, I completely agree that getting out, with 3 children is close to impossible.

My mind is saying - what are the children experiencing now?

Who will they grow up to be? What kind of partners will they choose for themselves?

Is your partner capable of change? Could you do couples therapy? Is there love?

I know all of this is extremely personal. Obviously, please don't reply.

I can't give advice because I don't know entire situation. It is upsetting to me, to read what he said back to you. It's not ok.

Like @tyme said. Please continue to reach out x

Don't cry. You are not alone x

Re: AITAH for wanting to go out

Thx StanD, and it's not inappropriate... its true. He can't change, we have been together for 19yrs. There has been improvement over time but I'm pretty sure thus is as good as he gets. Never called 1800respect, I feel like im being dramatic and over selling my issues ya know. I am always telling my kids to be better than us, but my mum said that to me and I am in a similar relationship to her... so it trends. U don't see it until ur knee deep tho. As for love... I don't even know anymore

Re: AITAH for wanting to go out

Hey @lotus85

Just checking in & seeing how you are doing?

Are you going away for girls weekend? I would love that. Being with other women, idk, there is less pressure - we get each other. We can laugh at silly things. There is sisterhood💕

How did you go calling 1800respect. Please know you are just as worthy as anyone else who calls. There is no 'degree' or standard to go by. I also have the exact same thoughts. You are not alone. Maybe you could think of kids if it is difficult to do it for yourself?

I hope you are ok xx
