Finding a psychiatrist

Finding a psychiatrist

What are you supposed to do when every psychiatrist you approach and advise of your conditions/circumstances say your too complex or similar? I approached community mental health and they wont do anything more with me.

So what do you do when you have complex mental health issues and physical health issues and no one wants a bar of you.?

Re: Finding a psychiatrist

@ClockFace that must be frustrating and demoralising.

Have you considered a psychologist as an alternative to the medicated route or as a means to find a good referral for a suitable psychiatrist?

We have such a shortage of highly skilled mental health practitioners compared to the amount of people needing support, it is so hard.

I hope your luck changes soon and that you find the help you need.

Re: Finding a psychiatrist

Hey @ClockFace ,

I'm hearing you. There are few places who can support both the physical and emotional side of things. I have certainly experienced this - it was one or the other.

Do you have NDIS? I wonder if a social worker or occupational therapist can support you to get the support you need for daily living?

Re: Finding a psychiatrist

@ClockFace I'm wondering if you can approach a psychiatrist with just one issue to start with. That way they may take you on, and down the track you can bring up other issues? More difficult to do with a psychiatrist then a psychologist, I know...

Re: Finding a psychiatrist

I don't have answers. But I have experienced similar

And if I have learned anything, it is that the best thing some MH professionals can say is that you are outside their scope of knowledge or practice. Psychs trying to fake their way through treatment which they can't handle does harm

Just keep reaching out. Don't stop (Taking breaks is OK) And eventually somebody will help
