Chronic shame
👋 I'm so grateful for all the kindness in the kindness in this community 💛
I'm starting to really observe my shame . I don't like the term toxic shame....It feels like I should call it chronic shame.
It's hard to feel so defective compared to the rest of the world after such an extreme and confronting mental health history, as well as alcoholism and what comes with it...
There's a line of a song..
Life's a song we don't get to rehearse, and every single verse, can make it that much worse....
That's what my journey has been like... so the shame and guilt and embarrassment just increased, which really changed my personality over time...
These days I have a handful of loving supportive people in my life, and I'm learning to re onnect with them without the shame...so slowly.
I couldn't treat people right till I gained awareness.
So I'm learning to value myself, learning that it wasn't all my fault...
Having psychology, soaking up you tube info and comments...loving this process.
I have these terrible bouts of shame where my mind produces one past event after another for me to feel shame over. Most of it is about things I did while psychotic and confused.
Such embarrassing stuff. I don't blame anyone around me for not knowing how to deal with it..
It's such a solo experience.
