Bad Weeks

Bad Weeks

hi All hope you are travelling well. I’ve had a rough couple of weeks. Been up and down, mostly the downs and not sleeping. I foolishly decided a couple of months ago to stop my meds. I felt I don’t need them anymore. Anyway I got into trouble at work as I got quickly angry and told my manager what I felt plus I’m not doing my work fully due to my mental health and feeling overwhelmed. Also I am not sleeping at night I have been sleeping during the day when I’m supposed to be working. Not wise HR are now involved. I just felt so angry and vocal towards everyone. Anyway after a long wait from me putting off an appointment plus I have no mental health supports, I bit the bullet as I’ve hit rock bottom and I saw my GP in my new area for the first time who decided I needed an ambulance to go to hospital as I was in a state and suicidal. I refused so we negotiated and I spoke on the phone to the crisis assessment treatment team who said if I didn’t get myself to the hospital on my own they would call the Police to make a welfare check on me at home and take me away to hospital.

TW: Inpatient experiences

Content/trigger warning
To avoid embarrassment I went to the hospital on my own accord and was kept in involuntary and I had two security guards following me around. It was embarrassing as I was told I couldn’t leave and the security guards could restrain me. The ward was terrifying. Lots of screaming and fighting. I was given medication to calm me and I managed to persuade the psychiatrist to let me out after two days.

I was supposed to get phone call today from CATT team but no one called. The medication I was given from psychiatrist from the hospital was only anti depressants and sleeping pills, both got 7 days worth. He wouldn’t give me anti psychotics which I’ve had before and helped my angry periods. He said I didn’t need them. I’m worried as I am going back to work and I can’t lose my job. I’ve moved GP’s due to having to move but the new GP I saw this week said that for repeat prescription I have to go back to previous GP surgery which is 25km away. I don’t have energy or will. I don’t know what to do. I’m sorry long ramble. Any advice?

Hey @Queenb72 ,

I can certainly relate in terms of the high distress and ED trips.

I'm sorry to hear about how you have spent your last few days.

I wonder if you can speak openly to HR and let them know you have been struggling recently, but are now working through it with professional supports? Do they provide employer assistance programs you can phone?

Hope to hear from you.

Re: Bad Weeks

Thanks for your response.

My team leader knows about my diagnosis, Bipolar 2 and BPD. I was diagnosed about 15 years ago in UK but I’m now in Melbourne, Australia. but it’s seen as business as usual with limited staff and more workload for everyone. They every so often when a supervision takes place ( not often occasionally over once every 3 months) ask what I require for my mental health but I can’t answer. They have demanded proof from a previous psychiatrist what I need but psychiatrist couldn’t respond in detail due to the refrains of my job and to her limited knowledge of my position. I work in local government which is demanding.

Through my job there is an IAP program but it’s three sessions only to talk to someone on the telephone. I did it last year and it was useless. It’s a private company hired from local government.

it’s just too much to comprehend with workload, no support, no family or friends.

Re: Bad Weeks

Isolation can be a killer. @Queenb72 I'm sorry to hear you feel you don't have anyone to speak to. It must be so difficult to sit with these heavy thoughts.

And yes, the dilemma of what to share with work and what not to share is a conundrum, especially if work is affected.

Are you happy staying in that job?

@Queenb72 Wondering if for a repeat prescription you may be able to organise a telehealth appointment with the original GP, and therefore you wouldn't have to travel 25km? Is this something they might offer?

Re: Bad Weeks

Hi

no honestly it’s high pressurised. Pretty much the “company” I say it loosely not to identify, decided to offer early pension deals and half the team left. The rest of us have had to take on that work. I’ve seen colleagues who I am unwanted of mental health issues. It’s crazy. I’m just tired and don’t have energy to fight

Re: Bad Weeks

Hi Hluppy

its so complicated. My head is full of rubbish and anxiety already I can’t even begin to negotiate with another practice to explain. It doesn’t help when I came to Australia approximately 3 years ago I lived with my mother in law and a local doctor prescribed my MH meds. Then I and my then partner moved to another area and I registered with local GP but I was told that to prescribe my mental health meds I had to have a private psychiatrist and that it would have to pay $500 upwards for one appointment. So I declined as can’t afford it.

Re: Bad Weeks

That certainly sounds so tough @Queenb72 . However, I wonder if you can find a bulk billing psychiatrist? I know they are rare, but maybe your GP can direct you to some?

I'm only saying this because I see/saw a bulk billing psychiatrist. He wasn't the best psych, but at least I got the meds I needed which were first suggested and prescribed by the hospital during an admission. So the discharge papers went to the psych and the psych followed through with the prescriptions...

Hi Tyme

Sorry but how you do you find a bulk for Psychiatrist privately! That option isn’t t open to me due to finances.

God I wish I was regular. Urgh!!’nn

Re: Bad Weeks

Precisely what I shared in my post above. I asked my GP and they told me about this psych who bulk bills @Queenb72

As I said, he's not the best, but it does the trick. I get what I need.

Re: Bad Weeks

Thanks

But when you are confused what day it is I find a billed person!

i was supposed to help by local health support during regular hours who called me at 7pm.

From being held against my mental will gor against my will and being ignored.

I have no friends or family.
