Something’s not right

it’s my birthday

it’s my birthday

it’s my 26th birthday and can’t stop crying. i have no friends, have never had romantic relationship and feel so angry at my family for no reason because i’m just that depressed so i push them away. i haven’t travelled or lived at all and time keeps on passing by. i feel this panic inside like it is too late. i had a mental breakdown at 15 and have been dead inside ever since, didn’t have a teenage experience and i’m no longer in my early twenties so that’s gone too. nothing to show for it. life has just always been so miserable i don’t know how it’s worth it anymore. i don’t know what the point of this is

Hey @selmabouvier ,

I'm hearing you. I've been in a similar situation. I used to think my time was running out. I compared myself to others, and became so depressed about it.

Years on, I'm in my late 30s, and I still haven't done the things you listed. However, does it bother me now? Not really. As I look back in life, I've always been a late bloomer. I tend to be a few steps behind than others. And you know what? That's okay. My time will come.

The main thing is that you get the support you need now so that you don't live in the past or in misery. Do you have the support of a GP or treating team???

Please know you are not alone.

Re: it’s my birthday

i have a psychologist i see fortnightly and a psychiatrist monthly. i take antidepressants for the last 6 years. the meds have helped a bit but i’ve never felt like therapy has worked and that scares me so much because if i admit that it doesn’t work and i stop doing it then it’s basically game over for me. i’m scared and i don’t know what to do anymore. i can never stop thinking about the past it’s all i ever do

i’m sorry for unloading. thank you for taking the time to respond, i’ve never used any kind of forum or chat room so i didn’t know what to expect. i’m just feeling so overwhelmed and that makes me panic, but i just want to stop thinking for now and go to sleep

Hey there, @selmabouvier

Not all flowers bloom at the same time, sweet...

It sounds like you've been wintering on the inside for quite some time - which could mean the summer time of your heart lay yet ahead for you!

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your b'day with us. I've never had a birthday celebration, either, as I recall. And if I might be transparent with you: my life didn't begin until I was thirty...

Fifteen years later it all ended.

Now...I begin again.

Such is life. To all things a season, and a season for all things. So they say...

Don't give up. Knowing the point of anything is rarely a privilege afforded us. Just when you think you have it figured out, the world will turn upside down just to keep you guessing again! 😉

Happy Birthday!

I'm wondering if there's something you could do to celebrate? Something you'd really like to do to mark the occasion, it can be as big or little as you like.

Have you tried journaling? Maybe take this day to record how you're feeling. Then you can reflect on it in future. Maybe you'll look back and see how far you've come.

I hear you, I'm in my early 50's and still question the point of it all. I have no answers, but I am proud of the way I have kept going despite the hardship. I am proof ;
