Talking to myself

Talking to myself

I was in ER last night due to a bit of an ongoing issue but while I was in there I kept catching myself talking to myself. I wasnt aware I was doing it initially but 1/2 way through what ever I was on about I would realise that I was talking absolute bullshit and I was the only one there. Ive had it a couple times before but not like this. I said to the nurse about it but nothing happened or was said about it. Its really embarassing telling someone that this was happening, but for there to be nothing done or even acknowledged made me feel like such an idiot.

I feel like Im ligit starting to lose it, now Im talking to myself and I have no idea what Im talking about, I could be talking about anything, my secrets, anything. Im not sure what to do about it.

Re: Talking to myself

I take to myself out loud. Mainly when I know that I'm alone, but sometimes I'll realise that someone is in earshot and feel very self conscious. I make a point of having music to listen to that helps me keep the voices to myself

Hi @ClockFace

What's your living situation, age if you don't mind sharing? It's not uncommon to "think outloud" if you live on your own...or talk to your cat/dog!

@lumiere1

I live with my parents and sisterd, Im 43. Its less talking to myself and more having a conversation with someone who isnt there.

Hey @ClockFace I don't think you should feel like an idiot about this at all but maybe they were just trying to be polite or weren't really sure how to address it. Sometimes our minds can do their own thing especially when we are going through a lot of stress or feeling overwhelmed, or have a lot of on our minds and we are trying to filter it all. A family member of mine has adult adhd and often has conversations with herself and answers herself. For quite some time I didn't know how to talk to her about it or often asked who she was talking to and she kind of just laughed it off.

Could you try writing down when you notice you are doing it or what has been said? see if its certain environments or stressful times that may be trigging it or something that is more regular?
