weird and wonderfuls

weird and wonderfuls

I have the strangest hallucinations.... if that is what they are which totally throw myself and my support workers. For example a little while ago I was woken up by the sound of my screen on my window being torn apart. Then I heard a growl in my bedroom and which I called out to my eldest son who slept through it and then I heard another growl closer to me. I was wide awake during the growling and jumped out of bed and turned on the light. There was no one in the room and the screen netting was fine .... any ideas would be helpful.

Hello @Bunniekins

When I was locked up in Laurundel in the 90's I shared a room with a woman who had strong visual and auditory hallucinations. At night I would have to turn the light on for her to show her that no man was behind the curtains. I would have to act like a sentinel to calm her fears over things she thought were scaring her in the dorm. In exchange for that she used to make my bed as I was so sick on H**dol and could barely function with the akathesia. It was hell but we got through. You possibly need someone to point out that these things so you know its not real. I'm sorry you are going through this greenpea but having somene close by to assuage your fears will make all the difference

@StuF thanks StuF it really is weird and scary. tbh it is quite magical as i am lucid when i have these kind of things happen. my mental health nurse has no idea what is happening. i am going to bring it up with psychdoc this week.

@Former-Member hey Smiling_Gecko this is the thing life is good for me at the moment i am in a good place. meds working well no visual hallucinations, no paranoia then out of the blue i get this. it is weird.another thing happened in broad daylight when i was walking in my room where i had this memory all in black and white of something .... i wont go into the details as it freaks me out. it was so real and when i talked to a friend about it he said that those sorts of things do happen in real life i had no idea.

going to talk with psydoc this week but wary as she will probably increase my meds ...

Re: weird and wonderfuls

Was this while you were sleeping at night? Happens to me sometimes, I'll "dream" (it feels like I'm awake) something in the room and turn my light on - funny thing is I actually properly wake myself up doing that. I feel so confused! Once the light is on I then realise it was a hallucination. These are called hypnogogic hallucinations (which occur when you are falling asleep) or hypnopompic hallucinations if you are waking up.

I also get sleep paralysis from time to time - which is fun (NOT!) It's actually terrifying.

They are completely harmless and if once you turn the light on and rationally know there is nothing there you can just go back to sleep.

Of course I'm not a doctor but these "parasomnias" can be related to sleep disorders. If they worry you or occur regularly or disrupt your sleep, might be worth seeing a GP.
