Update

I had my psychologist today, she helped me a little with the suicidal ideation stuff but she also made it clear she doesnt think she is a good fit for me. She thinks I need someone that can talk from a vaules perspective that can talk about life purpose type stuff. She went so far as to suggest that I should look at someone with a religious background, doesnt have to be any particular religion. The last thing I want is religious rhetoric and platitudes.

Ive asked the company I use for recommendations on a replacement. But here I am starting from scratch here again.

I had my scan this morning, I went to ER who transferred me to priority care. They determined that I didnt need surgery, which Im really happy about. They have organised hospital at home to come and give me a big dose of antibiotics each day for next for next few days. I then have a review at my clinic and they decide if I need to continue. They gave me a big jab of antibiotics this morning, I feel a bit better than I did, though still very swollen etc.

I have a cannula in my hand, the spot isnt too bad but Ive knocked it a few times and that hurts a fair bit. I didnt think that I had much hope with oral meds, so Im glad Im on IV antibiotics now. Now I just hope they work, if they dont Ill probably be admitted to hospital. I also got to hope that if they dont work that the fluid doesnt continue to collect and end up needing surgery. Im really hoping Im not going 10 for 10

Hey @ClockFace

Thanks for the update. How tough for you to have to find another Psychologist. It took me a while to find the right fit for me and when I did the work is much easier to manage. I hope hospital in the home works well for you, it's nice to be in your own home healing. The antibiotics will need time, so glad to hear you have benefit from them so far.

Re: Update

Hi @ClockFace

It can be disappointing when a health professional doesn't think they are the right person for you but at the same time it was good she told you. It's best to see someone who is capable of helping you.

Interesting that she said life purpose type stuff, does she mean life coach or something more deep (and possibly spiritual)? For example I have engaged with psychotherapists who work a bit differently - this was actually on the recommendation of a emergency psychiatry registrar, they said to look for someone who listed "psychodynamic therapy". So rather than following a set type of therapy, such as CBT etc you just talk and see what comes up. The person I ended up seeing was actually a meditation teacher. Whilst it wasn't religious at all, she encouraged me to explore spirituality. We talked a lot about memories and core beliefs which influenced my thinking. It was interesting because it goes deep into what your values are and who you are as a person, and how your past has affected your current outlook. Totally different to religion (I grew up Catholic, which I don't practice now) as there was no dogma or preachy stuff.

I liked it because it didn't make me feel like things were my fault or that it was something I had to "fix" the way other therapies have.

Anyway, I hope you can find someone who is a good fit for you 🙂
