Defining mental illness

I would like to know whether or not emotionally unstable personality disorder is regarded as a mental illness.

Hi and welcome, @Molly56 , it's good to have you here 🙂

I think EUPD is a mental illness, but you can check it in the DSM-5 (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition). I had a little google and it seems that EUPD is also known as BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). But I am not a doctor, so you might have to do your own research, or ask a doctor yourself.

I hope you find some answers and clarification you are looking for - it can be really confusing in the initial stages of understanding mental health/illness.

As @NatureLover said, best to talk to a GP you trust and find further support from there.

Regardless of diagnosis, you are entitled to mental health support and you deserve happiness and stability.
