Disassociation?

Disassociation?

I have really been struggling with my psychotic features recently, its getting increasingly difficult to deal with. Im still trying to get into a psychiatrist.

My visual hallucinations are really common, multiple times a day, though they arent disturbing so I cope ok. But amongst other things Im dealing with is this feeling that I am experiencing my life here on earth from mars. Like, there is no connection betwen me and what Im experiencing. If its for short periods, I can deal with that but there are times where its basically the entire day. I feel like reality is just out of arms reach away for hours, outwardly I seem fine, but inside Im so lost.

What can I do for this? At what point do I onsider hospital, if they can actually do anything for me

Re: Disassociation?

Hey @ClockFace that sounds really intense for you. I'm glad that you've got things in motion to get in to see a psychiatrist.

Sounds like this is causing you to feel really disconnected from everything, which would be quite distressing indeed. I think if you're considering a hospital admission, some things to think about would be whether or not you're worried you might hurt yourself whilst in psychosis, or hurt someone else, whether you are a danger to yourself (e.g. doing something dangerous whilst not able to be properly present & focused, like driving), and whether it has been getting worse quite rapidly.

Some stuff to help you cope might be things like writing affirmations for yourself (little reminders that you are here, to help tether you to reality), practicing mindfulness, and utilising grounding exercises. Also would maybe be good to have a chat to the sane counsellors if you need support sooner - 1800 187 263 (Mon-Fri, 10am-8pm). You could also see if you can find a support group in your area where you could find some connection and community with others who could relate to your experiences.

Hope this helps 💜

HI @ClockFace

Can really acknowledge what you are going through. I have these episodes too, some lasting the whole day. They are hard to deal with and even harder to control.

I find I really have to stay grounded and use my 5 senses. Another thing I do is use ice packs or ice blocks. The coldness helps bring me back into my body. I also say passages to myself that I have already written down. Such as my name is ..., I am ...years old, the day is ...., the date is ..., this isn't happening again, I am safe. Just simple things like this.

It is really good that you are being proactive and trying to see a psychiatrist. It can take awhile to get onto one.

I'm sure there are other members can relate to what you are going through.

Love to talk soon
