Management Changes

Management Changes

A day or so ago I had an appointment with my pain specialist, after a year with him and going from bad to worse and worse again under his care he has decided that he is basically not gonna do anything more for at least 6 months. He might redo my last procedure at that time, he might not. Basically he has made me heaps worse, Im on massive amounts of pain medication now as a result, I cant work etc. Like in comparrison to how I was, Im really screwed now.

I spoke to my GP the same day, we are basically going to be starting from scatch again. Im having a full spine MRI and she is looking to get me into a specialist international spinal centre to see if they can do something for me. I got onto the pain specialist via my old GP my new GP though is doing things a bit different, she has on a few things and so far so good. But it means spending a heap more money, the MRI is over $500 not covered by medicare. There will be a heap of appointments etc. so financially its gonna suck big time. Ive spent so much money already to get into a worse position.

Here's to starting all over again, again. Hopefully I get some where this time

Hey @ClockFace ,

That still sounds so hard. I’m sorry to hear things haven’t improved.

Have you looked any more into moving out?

@tyme

Yeah I looked into it a fair bit, I got right into affordability/budget. Even with the bare essential medical costs Im just not able to afford to live alone. Share housing wouldnt be much better and I dont think I could do it anyhow. With the changes to my medical care going forward now, my medical costs are going to be much higher. Bare minimum on a monthly basis it costs me just over $1000 not including health insurance. Normally, its a fair bit more than that in the end. Works out that I am spending 30-40% of my income on medical costs and unfortunately there isnt anyway for me to reduce this further and its unlikely it will reduce in the near future.

Somehow, I have to find a way where I can deal with my family, live with them etc and manage my mental health. Financially I cant move out, even with different supports. So, its work a way to live with them or find a cardboard box for myself.

Re: Management Changes

I hope you can find a safe space @ClockFace . You need it and you deserve it. I'm not sure the stress is helping your pain. Do you have any strategies for clocking off and out so you can retreat from the family for a bit?

Your level of pain sounds concerning.

Re: Management Changes

Hi @ClockFace

I have been reading your posts while I have been taking time out - it is really tough that you have been told by your specialist that you need to take other action -

I do understand - that must be so distressing. You must feel as if you are just getting the runaround and wonder if anyone really cares.

We do - certainly - I do - I know some of the treatments you have been having on your spine and - truly - I understand what you are saying about pain - it sure does suck - and your family situation is not at all comforting. I wish I had an answer but I don't.

It seems you need a half-way house situation where you manage what you can and someone else helps out. And your family does need to pick up their personal slack and let you manage your issues without so many demands. You have the right to do this - you are stuck their financially - this I understand - but the atmosphere sounds toxic to me - I am pretty sure you would feel better emotionally without all of this extra stuff happening.

Try and put yourself first in your own mind and say "No" to your sister who can drive and can pick up things for herself. It's not your job - she needs to organise her mind. I get it that your parents are aging but can still organise their thinking too. It's not up to you to tell them that - however - you can state you are taking care of yourself more - it's important to inform others when we change our behaviour. Whether or not they listen is up to them.

We are here to support you - and we do care

All the best
