in a good place but feel a bit lonely

in a good place but feel a bit lonely

hi all so at the moment im studying online from home and also about to full time care for my partner who is going for ankle surgery and will become physically disabled an wont be able to walk for 3 months .

this is where i feel lonely i have one close friend ive know since childhood and my mum who i talk to from time to time other than that im not very close to others as ive struggled with bpd on and of since i was diagnosed at 21 and now im 32 , ive lost friends and family when ive had break downs . im in a very good place now with my mental health for the last 12 months

however im different in a sense of not just mental health but how i manage my mental health and also chronic health with diet and natural practices and spirituality like meditation yoga , eating certain foods like dark chocolate a variety of salads and drinking hot cacao and other alternative practices .. i dont drive so it makes it harder to connect with some people similar to me.

does anyone else sometimes feel isolate and struggle to find people to connect witht that have similar interest to them.

sometimes i jus feel alone and isolated even though i have a partner were also a bit different but similar .

Hi @Itscinna

Sorry to hear you're feeling this way. I think it's pretty common to be honest. There was a new report out last week that said we are more isolated than ever.

I used to worry myself about not having a big friendship group but as I've gotten older I began to ask myself if that's what I really want or is it just what I see other people have. I see others I know all over social media with huge groups of mates all going away together and the like. I began to realise that it's not actually what I would like anyway. That may or may not be relevant you but just thought I would share.

I'm wondering is there maybe a facebook group that has a catch up group for your local area? There is one in my town and people there seem really nice and so many join and say the same as you - they are lonely and looking for friends.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling there. I just want to send some hugs and care your way.

Hanami

hi @hanami

im truly truly grateful for your message its honestly heart warming.

i was the same i once wanted heaps of friends but now just want a couple of people i can call or talk to about life and similar interest and things im studying ( im doing a naturopathy certificate) .

there arent many local groups in my area , there are some small events that get held but 99% are paid events like womens circles and yoga groups and workshops.

living on the outskirts of a big city has its challenges as i dont drive currently and not working.

although there is transport i know my biggest thing is getting to some of the events and going by myself i get so nervous i guess thats one of my personality traits i want to meet new people but its me getting nervous to step out of my comfort zone making a plan to go to one of the events or finding a group and actually going..

ive had in the past where i went to these places and not really had anyone talk to me but i know i just need to push myself out of my comfort zone and be less judgemental and self critical of my self.

@Itscinna it's tough isn't it. I have to push myself too and am often not really good at that. It's so easy to stay in our comfort zones. I like all those things you do to stay healthy. I'm a bit like that - always trying to eat well and exercise and stuff. It does help. Hang in there. I'm sure something will work out. Keep reaching out and I hope all goes well with your partner's surgery! xx

it is quiet tough an i know that somedays will be tougher than others but after alot of deep thought yesterday im deciding to make it a goal to try to connect with a social group even if its once just to at least step one foot out of my comfort zone...

i love science so i often look at research studies on types of foods an exercise that healp increase positive mental health like yoga to help tension in the body but also to slow down and dark chocolate and hot cacao increases dopamine and taste good when you find one you like.

im grateful for your comment and appreciate you reaching out.. hoping our journeys of healing keep us on this path of self growth and gratitude for platforms like this where like minded people can connect and spread kindness. xx
