Hey @Chris
So sorry to hear. I can really relate. Why do we go through this with people who are supposed to love and accept us unconditionally? Maybe because they can't.
This year I told my sister we'd meet her & her partner at a cafe halfway between. I simply couldn't bear the feeling of intense anxiety whenever I even think about them coming to my house. Last time they were here I burned my arm very badly on a roasting pan (a very rare occurence), and didn't even think about putting fresh aloe vera on it until a friend suggested it the next day. I keep aloe growing outside my kitchen for this very purpose, so it tells you the kind of head-space I was in.
I think @Alessandra1992 has some excellent suggestions, we used to do the picnic thing at a park with my ex-husband for Xmas lunch for the kids' sakes - it worked pretty well. Certainly took the pressure off. I'm now quite comfortable having him over here on the day. I've learned to be very clear with him about my boundaries, and he's learned to respect them.
Take care and be kind to yourself tomorrow. Maybe tell them you need an early night?
Kindest regards,
Kristin
