Intervention order advice please.

Intervention order advice please.

Brains trust, I need your advice...

Husband still in hospital, still won't speak to me and is apparently still hostile towards me.

His brother (who is listed as next of kin at the hospital) has confirmed that he is still very angry at me. Husband has a meeting with Dr and brother on Monday to discuss next steps, and the tribunal hearing is Thursday. Husband is refusing to come back to our home whenever he is released but will be pursuing a community based treatment order.

My peer support worker and his brother have suggested that I take out an IVO to both ensure my safety and to give husband some additional framework to avoid him doing something he can't come back from...

I am really struggling to jump the emotional hurdle of doing this. It feels like it will end any chance of reconciliation once he does 'level out'....

Aaaaagggghhhh

Does anyone have lived experience of this?

Re: Intervention order advice please.

Hi @Reggiethecat

I have some experience in part but not all.

Firstly, legal advice from people helping needs consideration. I hope your peer support worker understands the implications of IVO especially if you want your husband to return. And implications on your husbands brother decisions if an IVO is in place. To get and IVO can be very flippant advice with big ramifications.

Not sure what tribunal hearing is for.

I think your instinct is correct "I am really struggling to jump the emotional hurdle of doing this. It feels like it will end any chance of reconciliation once he does 'level out'....

I tend to agree. IVO does not stop anything. It is a piece of paper telling someone what can and cannot be done. Breaches of the order are the issue.

I hope your husband gets the correct medication and counselling and it sounds like his brother may be helping. Your husband may not be aware of what he is saying. The brother seems to be assisting and informing you.

@Former-Member thanks.

The tribunal hearing is to change the temporary treatment order to a 6 or 12 month one, decide if he can be treated as an inpatient or in the community.

He was given a 5 day injection of meds on Wednesday so I have everything crossed it helps x

Hi @Reggiethecat

Thank you for explaining.

I was worried it was guardianship.

Do you have confidence in your brother in law?

I have not read he is a problem.

If he keeps you informed and looks after your husband that is fine.

I hope you can work with brother in law to assist your husbands recovery.

I worked with some people with Dementia. Family got upset with us because they forgot their parent was no longer how they remembered them.

I hope the upset your husband displays is until he settles.

Try not to take it to heart.

Hi @Reggiethecat

Your husband next of kin may have been done because he was at the hospital.

It should not affect a will.

Document things anyway. It does not sound like husband has clear mind to change will.

I am not a lawyer and not giving legal advice. Next of kin may have been formality before anaestethic?

You are lucky your brother in law keeps you informed.

I cannot see how an IVO will help. Discuss with brother in law.

I do not agree with support worker unless you are in serious threat.

Sounds like brother in law is taking the heat off you in a nice way. Not sure how he would react to an IVO unless there is a real threat.

How can husband come home with IVO.

I trust your instinct

Re: Intervention order advice please.

I have experience with ivos and think they are a waste of time.both people need lawyers (to put one ina nd respond) and ultimately whoever has the better lawyer, in my experience, is successful.

If u have a skilled lawyer u can trust id be listening to them above anyone else on legal matters.
