Thinking of quitting my job due to my MI

Thinking of quitting my job due to my MI

Hi thanks for taking the time to read my post. I am posting here because i dont know who else to turn to. I am having problems at work. Its a fast paced high stress enviroment and i have anxiety and depression. Its the type of place that no matter how hard you try, how much work you do, you leave exhausted and defeated. Its never enough for the people there.
On top of that there are two people senior to me that hate my guts. They degrade me constantly both publicly and privately and generally treat me like i am something offensive they stepped in on the sidewalk. I know that i will be having a very bad shift if either of those two are in charge for the day. Iv tried earning their respect by being professionala and good at my job...iv tried being nice and engaging them in conversation and now i just stay away and do as im told. Its so bad that they can be un charge of the shift and will not aknowledge me in any way. They put my name on the board so i know my allocation but thats it. No other correspondance unless its a direct order or to tell me i am doung something that dissatisfys them. They are friendly with everyone else. I cant complain to managment because plenty of others have since i have been there and not one thing ever haappens. These two people just keep getting promotion after promotion. I have kept a diary for 2 years about the whole situation.
I used to have aspirations to further my career but iver the last 3 years any self confidence i have has been eroded away. My husband wants me to just quit but i am too ashamed to even ask people to be a referee on my resume. I feel that bad about myself i cant beleive anyone would have anything nice to say about me. I feel like i am incredibly bad at my job but i ha e never had a bad performance review.
If i didnt need the money i would have quit on the spot today. I want my son to look up to me but its hard whwn i see every single oerson as better than myself......

Princess Molly,
I left work four years ago due to similar feelings,I didn't recognize I had anxiety or depression, had a tiredness I could not beat, and could not handle bullying which I had a day before my 40 th birthday. You feel defeated and sounds like you are in a unhealthy environment. Can I ask however is there a way you can take leave to step back without quitting?Just to let you think. If you decide to quit next week that's fine, but you need to make the decision without the influence of your husband. He is concerned for you obviously, but I know from my state, you need to make the decision as any pressure in any way when you are low doesn't help.If you can take a week off seek a psychologist or someone to talk to.My one regret when I reflect is I left a full-time job over pathetic people who are still there ,and I left, had nothing go right since.Anxiety and depression are a bad mix ,anxiety we worry about tomorrow, depression we focus on the past, strips us of the competitive drive and the fight response we need to survive in the workplace. It has to be your decision, and I wonder if you are in the right frame to make it,even if you give yourself until Monday.Do take time off without quitting if possible, got nothing to lose by doing so and give you time to think.

Hi @Princessmolly,

I agree with @Former-Member. I don't think you should quit, I think you should take extended leave. Do you have a union? Discuss it with them first, if you can. They will support you.

You are being systemically bullied at work and that is illegal!

You have done the right thing in recording everything in a diary. You can now take sick leave for psychological stress under Work Cover. You will have to go to your G.P. and explain what has been happening at work and get a sick certificate. Again, your union can tell you what's best to say and do.

If you don't have a union, then your G.P. should know what to do.

If I were you, I would not go back to work! It sounds terrible. Just call in sick and take a bit of time to decide exactly how you want to handle it. Do a bit of investigation.

No-one deserves to be treated in such an unprofessional way. Don't stand for it.

If you do decide to leave make sure you have a job to go to. Don't just up and quit - it's harder to find a job and there is no pay while you try to find something.

I hope you have the option of some kind of leave,to allow yourself a bit of time for "headspace".I think at the end of the day this is unfortunately in a large percentage of workplaces.I have been to many interviews and have seen the tension and get the awful feeling within five minutes that it's a workplace I don't want to be in because of my experiences and thus inability to cope with these situations.Try and work out your options.I had poor management four years ago ,who blamed me who never had trouble in 20 years prior to this. As others have stated, make a complaint about these workers, even if you go out the door .At times I wish I took mine to court because of the way I was treated and it's impact on my life.

Hi again @Princessmolly,

How are you going with you work issues? I really hope you are ok? For some reason, I have got it into my head that you are a nurse. If so, please don't feel that you need to confirm this... you do not necessarily want people to know this! You would want to remain as anonymous as possible.

There is an excellent, free health service for nurses called the Nursing and Midwifery Health Program that deals with mental health issues. You may like to try them. www.nmhp.org.au

My friend had free counselling through them and she thought they were great. I just mentioned this program in another discussion, too.

Hugs to you.
