Something’s not right

Does anyone feel like the only reasonable one out there?

Does anyone feel like the only reasonable one out there?

It feels like everyone overreacts to everything, and it makes me just as angry.

I watch a lot of sport, but the amount of people that go off about the referees… what game are these fans watching? Some fans say that they’ll never watch a game of rugby league again, and then they’ll come back the next week and say the same thing.

It’s funny but it’s not funny.

There’s a reason why inflammatory comments are called inflammatory. It’s like a flame spreading inside my chest and I’m just lost for words, wondering how people could be so absurd.

I feel that way when I watch news stories. Crime is a good example. It makes me really annoyed when people get annoyed that a criminal was “only” sentenced to 20 years. “This proves that criminals have more rights than you do.” A lot goes into determining a sentence, but people want to play armchair judges. Or when they become armchair detectives. “She was strangely calm, she definitely has something to hide.”

I felt that way in my previous job, working in a contact centre for an insurance company. The smallest thing sometimes would set customers off, and it makes no sense. Customers’ expectations have to be seriously adjusted. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve had a policy for, you can’t expect a 30% discount year-on-year. If the company did that for every long-term customer, I wouldn’t have had a job….

I don’t want the specific examples to distract from the issue. I guess how do you manage your anger when it’s so easy to ride the wave with others?

@florencefifty there was a saying: 'common sense is not very common'. Probably just as true now.

I guess that’s how we get mob mentality. Because people get on board with other people’s anger or emotions. It’s up to us to do something different, make another choice. You can only control your own actions. You can’t change what others do but perhaps your example will affect or influence others.
