Anxiety and Employment

Anxiety and Employment

Hey all, just wondering if I can get some advice. I have been diagnosed with chronic dizziness (PPPD) the condition is and have massive anxiety attacks. Working is a massive challenge and is making my life hell. I have a full time new job which has turned out to be stressful and I am looking to study again but through distance learning. I'm also a kiwi living in Australia. My biggest fear is me not being able to hold down a job and having to go back to NZ as I can't get the sickness benefit here and my chronic dizziness can make life hard, I'm also only 27 and feel like I have become isolated from everyone even my family since I have had bad anxiety and no one believes my dizziness and I was told I use my anxiety as an excuse. The dizziness condition was diagnosed by an ENT and Rehabilitation therapist. I really need advice on how people have help down jobs because this is becoming a massive challenge for me and financially I can't afford not too work :(.

Re: Anxiety and Employment

Hi. I feel for you. I've had those dizzy anxiety attacks. It's deliberating. I actually found that stopping work made me feel worse, Not that this will happen to you. Good on you for wanting to get more education. My advice is just take one thing at at time. See if you can get anxiety under control. Can you get help with that ? I just try to think of one day at a time. I give myself a pat on the back for making it through and get up again the next day. Just keep going.you can start studying Also I understand about family. I hate that I'm labeled and it colours everything I do and feel. Then the opposite of that is they are not there when I need them. I just decided to try hard to look after myself. Very hard and lonely but having no expectations means I'm not let down. Be kind to yourself just do your best. I'm sending you all my best wishes.

Thanks @esprit 🙂 day by day is good, I just lack sleep from all the anxiety attacks. I was just worried I'm going to struggle to continue to hold down a job.

Hello @Flower88,

That sounds like a really tough time for you lately, I can't imagine how exhausted you must feel from the dizziness, panic attacks and anxiety. Are you currently linked in with a counsellor or psychologist to help manage your anxiety?

There are lots of support groups and workshops for managing anxiety, even a helpline. The Anxiety Recovery Centre provides lots of low cost services, it might be worth giving them a call:

Take care, don't forget to breathe and try to self-care with relaxation as much as possible. And like @esprit said taking one thing at a time and not overwhelming yourself can be really helpful.

Lunar 🙂

Really silly question, are you on any meds that may possibly be implicated in the Vertigo.... Did it only start sometime after starting a medication?

Hi @Former-Member thanks 🙂 yeah it's alittle challenging am now seeing a specialist for my chronic dizziness. Hi @Lonelygirl no I didn't, it was down to a lot of stress they diagnosed it as pppd. Unfortunately it can be brought on from mental health issues 😞 it's a weird condition and is not well known but is apart of the vertigo family
